Beekeepers Club at PAU

Ludhiana, April 10
A beekeepers’ club has been inaugurated on the pattern of the Farmer’s Club at Punjab Agricultural University. Dr J.S. Kolar, Director, Extension Education, said, all although Punjab leads in honey production, yet it requires a club to discuss ways and means to increase the yield and the quality of the product. The big export market needed to be tapped, he added.

With the formation of the Beekeepers Club one of the long standing demands of the bee-keepers had been accepted. The members would meet every month at Kairon Kisan Ghar to discuss various issues a with the experts in the field, he said.

Mr Baldev Singh Landha was elected president of the club. The next meeting of the club would be held on May 2, he added.

119 BCM students get prizes

Ludhiana, April 10
The annual prize distribution function of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School was held here today.
Nupur Chhabra of class XII won the best student award. Jaspreet Kaur of the same class got the best singer award. Roop Khangura of class X was chosen the best artist. Nupur Grover of class XII was selected for the best creative artists award. Gunjan Grover of class X clinched the best dancer prize. Sahil of class X won the best musician award.

The best scientist award was shared by Rashmi Pandey and Karanbir, both class XII medical students. The best mathematics wizard award was shared by Mayank Kukraja and Yuvraj Dhir of classes XII and X, respectively. Manikaran won the best sports boy prize and Priyanka got the prize for being the best sports girl. Nidhi Bhuchar of class XII, Akanksha Mahajan of class X and Jasneet Kaur got the prizes for the best orator in English, Hindi and Punjabi, respectively.

Dipika Aggarwal of class XII won the best home scientist award. Neha Malhotra was declared the best student in craft. Param Bakshish Singh was honoured with the best NCC cadet prize. Two special prizes in mathematics were announced for Khushboo and Niharika of class XII.

A colourful programme was also organised on the occasion in which students presented gypsy dance, kolyacha dance and giddha. Dr K.S. Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, was the chief guest.

Ms Paramjit Kaur, Principal, and Mr Satyanand Munjal, president of the school managing committee, appreciated the efforts of the students.

119 students get degrees

“The main problem before India is its exploding population resulting in economic backwardness of the masses”, said Mr K.S. Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, Ludhiana, while addressing B.Ed students of the BCM College of Education on the fourth annual convocation and prize-distribution function held today. Mr Aulakh in his address urged the students to play an active role in stopping the female foeticide. He said first of all the girl should get economic independence.

Mr Aulakh conferred degrees on 119 students, including 71 girls. Pratima Nassa was awarded the roll of honour for getting the second position in the B.Ed examination conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh. Forty-six students were awarded prizes for academic excellence.

Mr Satyanand Munjal of Hero Cycles Ltd presided over the function.

Workshop for pharmacy students

An interactive workshop — Impetus 2003 — was organised for students of the GGN Khalsa College of Pharmacy here today.
The workshop was aimed at acquainting the students with the expectations of their prospective employees. Mr P.K. Bhardwaj, general secretary of the Punjab Drug Manufacturers Association, was the resource person. Addressing the workshop, he advised the students to develop their professional skills in pharmaceutical marketing as it was becoming more and more competitive.

Mr Puneet Jain, a drug manufacturer, apprised the students of the various manufacturing and pharmacological aspects with which they need to be aware of before selling any product.

CMCH to organise fete

Ludhiana, April 10
The Christian Medical College and Hospital will organise Golden Jubilee Hangama Fete to mark the completion of 50 years of MBBS course.
Dr Rajeev Kapoor, Deputy Medical Superintendent, said the fete would be held on April 11 and 12 and the Minister for Higher Education, Mr Harnam Dass Johar, would inaugurate it. The funds raised from it would be used for the construction of a conference hall in the college.
