World Health Day observed

Ludhiana, April 7
A function was organised at the Civil Hospital here today to mark World Health Day. The function was presided over by the Deputy Mayor, Mr Prem Kumar Mittal.
Dr S.N. Tiwari, Civil Surgeon, while speaking on the occasion said children were the future of the nation and they should be provided a healthy environment. “Efforts should be made to provide pollution-free, healthy atmosphere to the children”, he said.

Dr G.K.Sood, highlighted the importance of the day. He said that children should be timely immunized. He proposed a vote of thanks in the end.

Meanwhile, a medical check-up camp was organised by Harsh Vidya Mandir Day Boarding School, New Subhash Nagar, to mark World Health Day. Doctors examined more than 300 students at the camp. Ms Meena Sharma, Principal of the school, also spoke on the occasion.

Harpreet declared best player

Ludhiana, April 7
Undergraduate students of 2000 batch bagged the overall trophy in the annual sports meet of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. The prize distribution function was held here today at Dumra Auditorium of the hospital where the winners were awarded the trophy by Mr S.K. Sharma, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. The students, who participated in various sports events during the meet were given certificates and medals.

Mr Dharamvir Bector, vice-president, DMCH, Management Committee, presented mementoes to the Commissioner while Dr Sanjeev Uppal, Secretary of the Sports Council, delivered the vote of thanks.

The following is the list of the prize winners: football- 1999 batch; cricket- 2000 batch; volleyball- 2001 batch; badminton (boys)- 2000 batch and girls- 2001 batch; table tennis- 2000 batch; chess (boys)-2000 batch and girls-1999 batch.

Harpreet Singh Bains of 1999 batch was declared the best player of the tournament (football) while the golden boot award was clinched by Vishwadeep Singh Dhillon of 1999 batch.

Lovepreet Singh of 2000 batch, Inderpal Singh of 1998 batch were adjudged the best batsman and the best bowler, respectively. Inderpal Singh also got the player of the tournament award.

In track and field events, Harpreet Singh Bains of 1999 batch and Gurmeen Kaur of 2000 batch were named the best athlete among boys and girls, respectively.
