Airlines, CWC advance into quarters New Delhi, April 3 An unbeaten 70 off 91 balls with four fours and one six by Ishan Ganda and 70 not out, off 72 balls with six fours, by R R Parida helped Indian Airlines defeat Goswami Ganesh Dutt Club by eight wickets at the Harbaksh Singh Stadium. Electing to bat, G G Dutt scored 172 in 43.3 overs, with Surender Dayma contributing 75 off 83 balls with eight sixes and two fours and Amba Prashad remaining unbeaten on 50. Indian Airlines knocked in some quick runs to score 176 for 2 in 30.5 overs. Ishan Ganda was adjudged the man of the match. Gautam Gambhir felicitated New Delhi, April 3 Ghambir scored 618 runs during the West Indies tour to emerge the highest scorer for the country. His performance in West Indies earned Gambhir the India call as he has been included in the Indian team for the Tiangular Cricket Series to be held in Dhaka (Bangladesh) from April 11 to 20. Mr Ravi Khanna of Chand Khanna Club, who is also the secretary of the Delhi and District Cricket Association, presented a memento to Gautam Gambhir. Coach Raju Tandon and Chand Khanna Club officials Nitin Mehra and Maqsood Karim were among those who attended the function. |
Veterans to hold athletics meet in Delhi New Delhi, April 3 VAAAD president Raj Singh, a former international wrestler and referee, said the Delhi State Veterans team for the Veteran National Athletic Championship, to be held at Imphal (Manipur) from April 16 to 19, will be selected on the basis of the performance at the Delhi meet. Veterans athletics in Delhi have been looking up after Raj Singh took over as the president. A former international wrestler, who has represented the country 71 times, Raj Singh, who is the chief security officer of MTNL, dons many caps, including that of a wrestling referee, judge, coach and sports administrator. Mr Dharam Vir Yadav, a member of the State Transport Authority and the Delhi Transports Corporation boards, will be the chairman of the VAAAD while Union Minister Food Processing Subhash Mehria has agreed to be the patron of the association. Working president of the VAAAD Nina Seth said over 200 men and women athletes, in the 35 to 70 plus age groups, will be participating in the athletics competitions, which will have all the mandatory events. |

quarterfinal New Delhi, April 3 Mayank Sidana received the man of the match award from former Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy player Chaman Lal. Sonnet skipper Devendra Sharma won the toss and elected to field. Rs 3.72 crore spent on job scheme Sonepat, April 3 Giving this information, Mr Balwan Singh, Deputy Commissioner, told mediapersons here today that the state government had allocated about Rs 3.72 crore and distributed 3,961 tonnes of wheat for the implementation of this scheme during the year 2002-2003 in this district alone. The district administration, he said, had executed as many as 815 development works by utilising Rs 2.98 crore and distributing 3,018 tonnes of wheat during the period under review. He said that the development works included construction of streets, phirnis, schoolrooms, gau ghats, pucca roads to cremation grounds, retaining walls, digging of ponds, earth work on roads, construction of playgrounds in schools, construction of hospitals and dispensaries in rural areas of the district.

Noida collects Rs 70 crore as stamp duty Noida, April 3 According to Noida’s Chief Financial Advisor, a total of 7,749 pieces of property were registered between April 1, 2002 and March 31, 2003. Stamp duty on 50 industrial properties came to over Rs 1.04 crore. As much as Rs 2.49 crore had been collected as stamp revenue on 228 residential plots while some 1,096 residential properties fetched a revenue of Rs 4.72 crore on account of stamp duty. Twenty-four commercial properties earned a stamp duty of Rs 62.27 lakh. The Financial Advisor said in all, 5,351 properties were registered during the year, of which 1,743 properties registered between September 2002 and December 31, 2002 had brought a stamp revenue of over Rs 42.30 crore while from January and February 2003, Rs 18.60 crore had been earned on 1,844 properties, and during March the
registration of 1,764 properties had brought Rs 11.12 crore to the state revenue. |
