DBA groups bury the hatchet
Our Correspondent

Jhajjar, April 3
The confrontation between the rival factions of the District Bar Association seemed to be over following the intervention of the district administration here.

Sources said that a patch-up formula was struck by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Mohinder Kumar, after holding talks with representatives of both the groups.

The Superintendent of Police, Mr Mohammed Akil, was also present in the meeting.

According to this formula, the members of the Kapoor-Sahrawat group, which elected Jaideep Punia as their chief last year after defecting from the association, would apply for membership in the District Bar Association led by Naseeb Singh Kadian. They would tender their apologies for the controversy.

The DBA, moreover, wanted to wind up the registration for separate association and hand over all the records that was with them.

A joint meeting has been called in the bar room tomorrow where the ‘defector’ advocates are likely to apply for DBA membership. Mr Kapoor Sahravat and Mr Naseeb Kadian were present in the meeting with the Deputy Commissioner today.

When zodiac signs are coupled with the subject

STAR signs form an integral part of every human being, whether young or old. They are an age-old subject on which two strangers start off a conversation. And when these zodiac signs are coupled with the subject of his painting, an entirely different and unique imagery is created.

This is exactly what artist Veer Munshi has tried to do. He has taken one of the most identifiable person from each sign and woven other imagery around that person. For instance, Gandhi is a Libran and he has studied and based his work on his different traits and features. His exhibition is on at Gallery Espace till April 18.

From paintings on issues like Kashmir and then shifting on to other aspects, this wasn’t an instant change. It was a gradual process undertaken after a lot of research and efforts. Veer Munshi is holding the solo show after five years. And his efforts have borne fruit, as the people’s response has been tremendous. All age groups and generations have turned up to view his works. This idea has made people, not necessarily art lovers, to come closer to paintings.

Five well-known artists, Vinay Setia, Gautam Partho Roy, Bhaskar Singha, San and Shekhar Mukherjee, will exhibit their works at the Lalit Kala Akademi, gallery number eight, on April 8.

The weeklong exhibition will provide an opportunity to the art lovers to see the works of these young artists. While San and Vinay have their studios in Sonepat, Haryana, Shekhar, Gautam and Bhaskar have made Delhi their home. The paintings reflect the innermost feelings of the artists who have held several exhibitions earlier.

A self-thought artist, Setiya is a graduate from Delhi University. He has had no formal training in art. San has graduated in Fine Arts from Rabindra Bharti University and Indian College of Art and Draftmanship, Kolkata. Presently, San is an art teacher at Raunaq Public School in Sonepat.

Tribute to Sanyal

The Paharpur Business Centre Art Gallery in Nehru Place is holding a group show of paintings in memory of the grand old man of Indian contemporary art, B. C. Sanyal, who passed away recently. The exhibition will focus on some of the incredible works of Sanyal.

Apart from the works of Sanyal, the exhibition will also display some artworks of Sebjeet Singh, Neera Mitra, Prem Chowdhary, Dinesh Rai, Partha Chatterjee, Sulochana Saraswat, Atanu Sharma, Sangeeta Pathak, Joydeep Mukherjee, Prabh Simran Sidhu and Maria Tara Krajanek.

Bonsai Exhibition

The Indian Bonsai Association is holding its 22nd Annual Bonsai Exhibition at the Kiamal Mahal, Maurya Sheraton on April 6. Considered to be one of the best in Asia, members usually exhibit their best specimens in the exhibition. Over the years, many creative and political personalities like Sonia Gandhi, Usha Narayanan, Sushma Swaraj, Amjad Ali Khan and, believe it or not, Madan Lal Khurana have displayed their carefully nurtured exhibits in the annual event.
