GNIMT to become coeducational

The Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GNIMT), Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, that has been functioning as a girls’ college for the past few years, will become coeducational from the new session.

Giving this information, Dr A.S. Bansal, Director of the college, said the permission for the same had recently been granted by Punjab Technical University. He said all courses, including BBA, BCA, MBA and MCA, would also be open for the boys. He had also written to the university for getting the number of seats increased for various courses, but the approval was awaited.

Meanwhile, a new technical college affiliated to PTU is coming up at Samrala on the Chandigarh Road from the new session. Opening by the name—Malwa College of Technical Education—the college is being set up within the campus of Malwa College, Bondli, which is affiliated to Panjab University.

Mr Navpreet Singh Sidhu, Director of the college, said admission to BBA and BCA classes would begin from June onwards.

Meanwhile, to impart communication skills to students and help them prepare for various entrance examinations, the BNM College of Technical Education, Alamgir, has decided to start a few part-time courses.

Giving this information, Mr Manudeep Kaushal, Principal of the college, said the communicative English course would be started for the students of BCA and BBA. He said since most of the students of the college were coming from rural areas, they lacked fluency in English. He said their expression in writing was also not up to the mark and, therefore, they were unable to score good percentage in their examination.

Mr Kaushal said the classes would be held for one hour from Monday to Friday during college hours. He said internal examination would also be held at the end of the session. On repeated requests from ruralites of the area, the English speaking course would also be started for the outsiders after the college hours, Mr Kaushal added.

For the students preparing for entrance tests to MBA and MCA, the college would hold a crash course from April 15 till the end of May which would be joined by the students of BBA and BCA of the college. Besides, the coaching for tests such as GRE, GMAT and Toefel would also be given on the campus, said Mr Kaushal.

Teachers to launch stir

The Government Primary Teachers Association, Punjab, along with seven other teachers’ unions, has decided to launch an agitation against the new education policy to be introduced from April 1.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the decision of the government, Mr Piara Singh Dhillon, president of the Government Primary Teachers Association, Punjab, in a press statement here today condemned the new education policy saying it was against the interest of people of Punjab and the 50,000 primary teachers.

Three division-level protest marches will be held at Kotkapura (March 30), Jalandhar (April 6) and Ludhiana (April 18), said Mr Piara Singh.

Teachers to boycott exams

Ludhiana, March 26
Leaders of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union met here today to discuss the imposed 10 per cent annual cut on grants for the non-government affiliated colleges in the Budget. Prof Kanwaljit Singh and Prof Parminder Singh , district PCCTU president, said all teachers of private colleges in Punjab would proceed on ‘mass casual leave’ on March 28 and hold a massive rally at Matka Chowk, Chandigarh, at 11 am. The teachers would also boycott the theory and practical examinations.

Lok adalat for traffic challans

Ludhiana, March 26
The Legal Services Authority will organise a lok adalat for disposing of traffic challans on April 5, which will be presided over by Mr Baldev Singh, District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the authority. According to the Assistant District Attorney, the traffic offenders ,who wish to avail themselves of the opportunity, should approach the respective courts where their challans are listed and get these transferred to the adalat.

All people should bring along necessary documents, including driving licence, registration papers, insurance, pollution certificate, with them. TNS
