The District Tuberculosis Society observed World TB Day today. Mr Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner-cum-chairman of the society, was the chief guest on the
occasion. The programme was organised by Dr Anil Verma, District TB Officer.
Dr S.N.Tiwari, Civil Surgeon, flagged off an awareness rally of schoolchildren from the old Civil Hospital. Many painting and poster-making competitions were organised by the Health Department for nursing students. More than 300 students from the College of Nursing, Medical College and Sri Guru Nanak Dev Homoeo Medical College took part in these contests. Patients suffering from TB were given medicines free of cost on the occasion.
Mr Aggarwal said emphasis should be laid on creating awareness among the public about the free sputum examination and free treatment which was available in the district.
World TB Day was also observed by the District TB Eradication Society at Balmiki Bhavan, Chandigarh Road, Jamalpur, today.
Meanwhile, World TB Day was also observed at the Civil Hospital, Sudhar, under the chairmanship of Dr G.S.Gill, Senior Medical Officer. More than 600 persons from the departments of Education and Health and Family Welfare, and NGOs attended the
programme.
