Gold medal for PAU scientist

Ludhiana, March 20
Dr Lall Singh Brar, Head, Department of Agronomy and Agrometeorology, PAU, has been awarded a gold medal and a citation by the Indian Society of Weed Science at its biennial conference held at GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, in recognition of his significant contributions made in the field of weed science.

He is credited as an agronomist of international repute with specialisation in weed science. He joined the university in 1970 as a research assistant. At present he is Senior Agronomist-cum-Head, Department of Agronomy and Agrometeorology.

Dr Brar has to his credit more than 100 research papers, 72 articles, two bulletins, three chapters and has guided 12 postgraduate students.

Rs 3.35 lakh aid for school

Mr Sadhu Singh Dharmsot, MLA, gave two cheques for Rs 3 lakh and Rs 35,000 each to Mr Nirbhay Singh, Sarpanch, for the development of Government Middle School, Sounti, at a function organised on the premises of the school, today.

The MLA said the village had been brought under Model Village Scheme and Rs 1 crore would be spent on its development. He appreciated the efforts of the gram panchayat for the development works in the village. He further said sums of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1.20 lakh would be given to Bhadalthua and Machhrai Kalan villages soon.

Mr Nirbhay Singh said the panchayat had built Ravidas, Ramgarhya, Balmik dharamshalas, a community hall, middle school building and two ponds for the disposal of sullage water with its own resources.”

Among others Mr Surjeet Singh, member Zila Prishad, Mr Pargat Singh, Sarpanch Annian village, Mr Som Parkash, member panchayat also spoke.
