Harpreet wins three titles

Ludhiana, March 12
Harpreet Kaur, a student of (ECE) second year took centrestage winning three events on the first day of the seventh Annual Athletics Meet of the Satguru Ram Singh Government Polytechnic for Women, Rishi Nagar, here today. She came out triumphant in the 100 m heat, 200 m heat and the long jump final while Usha Rani of first year emerged victorious in the 100 m hurdle and Rajbir Kaur clinched the shot put title.

Earlier, Mr Deepak Arora, Technical Adviser, United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, declared the meet open. The final year students presented a group dance on this occasion.

Results: 100 m heat (I) — Harpreet Kaur 1, Supinder Kaur 2, Paramjit Kaur 3; 100 m heat (II) — Manpreet Kaur 1, Shivani Bagga 2, Ruchi Dhiman 3; 100 m heat (III) — Jaspreet Kaur 1, Usha 2, Kulwinder Kaur 3.

100 m heat (IV) — Mandeep Hundal 1, Navdeep Kaur 2, Jyoti Verma 3; Shot put (final) — Rajbir Kaur 1, Avneet Kaur 2, Usha Rani 3; 200 m heat (I) — Usha Rani 1, Supinder Kaur 2, Mandeep Hundal 3.

200 m (heat (II) — Harpreet Kaur 1, Navdeep Kaur 2, Sunniya 3; Three-legged race (final) — Devinder and Gurdeep 1, Gagandeep and Navdeep 2, Madhu Bala and Supinder Kaur 3.

Long jump (final) — Harpreet Kaur 1, Jaspreet Kaur 2, Usha Rani 3; 100 m hurdle race (final) — Usha Rani 1, Dolly 2, Kulvinder Kaur 3; Spoon and Potato race (final) — Amandeep Kaur 1, Geeta 2; Staff race — Ajay Kumar 1, Dharm Singh 2, Mohan Lal.

Sports festival

The 14th annual sports festival to be organised by the Baba Sardool Singh Sports Club and the local Gram Panchayat will be held from March 26 to 28 at Lehal village, about 20 km from here. This was stated by the village sarpanch, Mr Harpal Singh Lehal.

“The main attractions of the festival will be the bullock cart races, kabaddi, volleyball and shooting events. Some NRIs belonging to the area, including Mr Sampuran Singh (USA), Mr Gurdev Singh and Gurdial Singh (Canada), are giving financial assistance in conducting these sports,” Mr Lehal said.
