Ludhiana, March 10
Stroke is emerging as one of the most common killers in the country. On an average, 2,000 people suffer a stroke (in the brain) in the country everyday. This was stated by experts at a seminar, ‘Neuro Update, organised by Deep Hospital here last night.
Eminent experts from the field of neurology warned that stroke was as dangerous and deadly as a heart attack as this always came without any prior symptoms. Prominent among the speakers were Dr J.S. Chopra, former Principal and Director of the PGI Chandigarh, and currently president of the Neurological Society of India, and Dr V.S. Mehta, head of the Department of Neuro-surgery, All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
They said, hypertension and diabetes were the main causes of stroke and people should take care of these in advance. “Prevention is the best cure”, said Dr Arun Dhanoka, a senior consultant neurologist at DMC, who has recently taken over as the Head of the Neuro-surgery Department in the Deep Hospital.
Dr Baldeep Singh, director, Deep Hospital, said the main purpose of starting a neuro-department was to provide affordable services in neurology to the people in Ludhiana.
