‘15,000 cr fiscal mess’ Shimla, March 10 Stating this here today, Mr Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister, said the House would be adjourned tomorrow after the Address of the Governor. However, it would not be prorogued and reassembled towards the end of the month for presentation and passing of a vote-on-account for a period of three months. The discussion of the Governor’s Address would also take place during the session. He said the Dhumal government had left the state’s finances in a mess with a visible burden of over Rs 15,000 crore which could be even more. His main concern would be to improve the financial health of the government by controlling wasteful expenditure and prudent borrowings. He said the financial crunch would not be allowed to come in the way of development activities which would be speeded up. |

Raids continue at
SSSB office Hamirpur, March 10 Meanwhile, employees of the board, who were on leave for two days, attended to their routine duties today. They were, however, not allowed to enter the office premises in the morning till the arrival of the Secretary of the board and after the permission of the team of the Enforcement department. Talking to reporters on the board campus, Mr Gupta said while the search and seizure operations were on, more would be known once Mr Surendra Mohan Katwal, Chairman of the board, reached the office. Mr Katwal is due here tomorrow morning. He, however, refused to say anything more but added that result of the raid was positive. If he didn’t reach tomorrow, his office would be opened and record would be seized as per the search and seizure orders received from a local Judicial Magistrate. Meanwhile, an indication regarding Mr Surendra Mohan Katwal’s joining the office was given by the brother of Mr Katwal to the DIG, Enforcement, on phone this evening. A team of the local scribes who had gone to cover the proceedings of the case found burnt question papers of the Board at a crematorium, especially constructed by the Board for burning its precious record. |
‘Chinese actions a cause for concern’ Dharamsala, March 10 Welcoming the recent political developments in China where there has been a smooth transition of power from the third generation to the fourth, the Dalai Lama said this showed the political wisdom of the Chinese leadership. He said he was in favour of bringing China in the mainstream of the world community instead of isolating it. He said but it was a sad reflection that in contrast to these positive developments in China, there was still a lack of a flexible and pragmatic approach. |
