Arya College win cricket tourney

Ludhiana, March 7
Skipper Gaurav Marwaha (63) led from the front to help Arya College for Boys to register 32-run victory over the S.D. Government College for Boys to lift the trophy in the first inter-college TCY Cricket Tournament organised by the Top Careers and You Learning Solutions in association with Hero Cycles, Hindustan Times and Coca Cola at the Government College ground here today.

Arya College won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 179 runs after losing five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Gaurav Marwaha hammered 63 off 46 balls, which included six hits to the boundary. Amul cracked 39 off 28 balls, laced with two fours and one six while Rajeev chipped in with 15 runs.

For Government College Varinder scalped two victims conceding 33 runs while Krishan, Sidharth and Mohit captured one wicket each.

In reply, Government College, despite useful innings by their captain Salil, who scored a scintillating 68 from 48 deliveries and Jimmy who cracked 42 off 28 balls, could muster 147 runs for the loss of five wickets in their quota of 20 overs. Ajay contributed 11 runs. Deepak of Arya College grabbed three wickets for 20 runs.

Mr O.P. Munjal, Co-Chairman and Managing Director of Hero Cycles and Dr M S Mahal, an international umpire, were the guests at the prize distribution function. Deepak was given a Hero Siren cycle while all members of the Arya College team received Hero Devil cycles.

PAU athletics meet ends

Ludhiana, March 7
Raminder Singh of the College of Agriculture in the men’s section and Shweta Sharma of the College of Home Sciences in the women’s section emerged best athletes in the 37th annual athletics meet of Punjab Agricultural University here today. The College of Agriculture won the overall trophy in the men’s category, while the trophy in the women’s section went to the College of Home Sciences.

Mr Jagmohan Singh Kang, Minister for Sports and Youth Services, gave away prizes to the winners.

Results: (Men) Javelin throw: Jatinder Kumar 1, Princedeep Singh 2, Kushal Bhalla 3; Triple jump: Raminder Singh 1, Harnarinder Singh 2, Albel Singh 3; Hammer throw: Sandeep Singh 1, Kushal Bhalla 2, Anurag 3.

4x100 m relay: College of Agriculture 1, College of Veterinary Sciences 2, College of Agricultural Engineering; 5000 m: Jatinder Kumar 1, Vishwanath 2, Harvinder Singh 3.

High jump: Raminder Singh 1, Mandeep Singh 2, Jagbir Singh 3; 800 m: Jagbir Singh 1, Jatinder Kumar 2, Manpreet Singh 3; 200 m: Harnarinder Singh 1, Pavninder Singh 2, Rajinder Singh 3.

(Women) Long jump: Gungeet 1, Rajdeep Kaur 2, Dilpreet Kaur 3; Discus throw: Maninder Kaur 1, Ishadeep 2, Kuljit Kaur 3; 200 m: Gungeet Kaur 1, Shweta Sharma 2, Kanwaljeet 3.

Sandeep, Jasdeep best athletes

Sandeep Singh and Jasdeep Kaur were declared the best athletes among boys and girls, respectively in the two-day 43rd annual athletics meet of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College held here.

Mr Surjeet Singh Gill, senior vice-president, Nankana Sahib Trust inaugurated the meet while Mr Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner, presided over the concluding function.

Results:

Boys:1500 m- Manpreet Singh 1, Navdeep Singh 2; Long jump- Jaspreet Singh 1, Harpal Singh 2; Shot put- Deepinder Singh 1, Parminder Singh 2.

Pole vault- Khushpinder Singh 1, Harpreet Singh 2; Javelin throw- Parvesh Mittal 1, Harpal Singh 2; 4x100 m relay - IIIrd year 1, Ist year 2; 200 m - Sandeep Singh 1, Surinder Singh 2.

800 m - Jaspreet Singh 1, Gagandeep Singh 2; 110 m hurdles- Sandeep Singh 1, Sartaj 2, 1000 m- Navdeep Singh 1, Gagandeep 2; 400 m hurdles- Sandeep Singh 1, Prabhjot Singh 2; 5000 m- Navdeep Singh 1, Sukhjinder Singh 2; Hammer throw- Prabhjot Singh 1, Deepinder Singh 2; Triple jump- Jaspreet Singh 1, Harpal Singh 2.
