Jacob inaugurates homoeo clinic

Chandigarh, March 7
Dr Batra’s Positive Health Clinic Limited (DBPHCL), a leading homoeopathic healthcare corporate, today opened its first clinic in Chandigarh.

Present to inaugurate the new facility was the Governor of Punjab Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob, along with Dr Mukesh Batra, Dr Paul and Dr Shamsher, chairman and managing director, chief homoeopathic consultant, (Chandigarh) and vice-president (strategy and development), respectively. The clinic will give five per cent of its revenue of the first three months of operations in Punjab to the local hospice.

Having successfully treated over one lakh patients suffering from various disorders including 35,000 cases of hair-loss disorders and scalp ailments like dandruff and sebhorrheric dermatitis, DBPHCL now has the largest database of hair-loss patients in the world.

General Jacob said, “There is a need to promote homoeopathic healthcare services. In India, more than 100 million people are taking homoeopathic treatment. People from across the globe are turning to homoeopathy, and I urge citizens of Punjab to take full advantage of DBPHCL’s services”.

Conference on kidney disorders

Chandigarh, March 7
The annual north zone conference of the Indian Society of Nephrology will be held at PGI here.

Topics of discussion will include kidney disorders that cause kidney failures. Four speakers from the USA have been invited to the conference.

The Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, USA, Dr Ajay Singh, will speak on recent advances in the field of treatment of kidney disorders. Dr Murali Acharya from Miami, USA, will discuss how estimation of protein excretion in urine can predict cardiovascular complications.

The Head of the Department of Nephrology, Prof Vinay Sakhuja, is the organising secretary. The Director of the PGI, Prof S. K. Sharma, will inaugurate the conference.

Disability detection camp

Chandigarh, March 7
A puppet show to spread awareness against female foeticide, dowry and crime against women was organised by the local unit of the Indian Council for Child Welfare at Dhanas village here. A disability detection camp was also organised. Meanwhile, the local chapter of Indian Council for Social Welfare organised a seminar on women’s issues in Dhanas.

Maharashtra defeat Punjab

Pankaj Sharma and Ajay Sharma of Punjab went down fighting to Maharashtra pair of K.K. Roy and P.G. Kalikar in the men’s doubles final (above 40) of the individual events of the 10th National Veterans Table Tennis Championship, which began here today at in Sector 23 TT hall. The Maharashtra pair won 11-9, 14-12, 4-11, 11-9.

In the men’s singles matches (above 50 years), those who sailed in the third round are, G.V.S. Rao, Prahalada Singh, Ranjit Roy, G.K. Palwankar, P. Sen, C.R. Laxmi Narayan, V.K. Joshi, Tilak Raj, Subilal Sarkar, Shyamal Ganguly, K. Raghuram, C.V. Shah, P.K. Thanekar, N. Chandran, Anjan Dhar, D. Suren, Devinder Nath, M.A. Krishna Swami, Sadan Dutta, Balbir Singh and G.C. Kanchan.

In the men’s singles (above 40 years), those who moved in the next round were, P.G. Kelkar, Subhash Dandekar, Y.K. Urankar, Ajay Sharma, Rajesh Jindal, Vishawajit Ghosh, Y.S. Chein, K.D. Vichare, K.K. Rai, S. Ramaswami, Yashpal Bajaj, Ram Chander Roy, Y.D. Upendra Nath, Pankaj Sharma.

Sports Council

The Sports Council, Chandigarh Administration, will felicitate the outstanding sportspersons and medallists of the 32nd National Games and other open national championships on March 9 at 11 am at Lake Club, here. Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd), UT Administrator, will also grace the occasion.

Total Tennis

Second-seed pair of Vinod Chadda and T.P.S. Mann outclassed their opponents, Jaswant Singh and K.S. Anand, 8-4 in the ongoing Arjun Singh Memorial Total Tennis championship being played at YMCA, Sector 11. In another tie of the same category, third-seed pair of Sanjeev Sodhi and Sunil Bajaj faced no challenge from their opponents, Birinder Bhullar and Vijay Bishnoi, in a one-sided match at 8-0. Now the top seed S.M. Sharma and Ramshekhran will face Sodhi and Bajaj in the semifinals. While Chadda and Mann to clash with Harish Saini and Chander Verma in other semifinals.

Athletics meet

The annual athletic meet of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, will be held on March 8 and 9 at sports complex, Sector 46. Various athletic events will be held. A large number of MBBS students, staff and faculty will participate in the event.
