Nutrition meet

Ludhiana, March 6
As many as 13 members of the staff alongwith three students from the Department of Foods and Nutrition of College of Home Science, Punjab Agricultural University, participated in the Ninth Asian Congress of Nutrition held at New Delhi, from February 23 to 27.

Giving this information, Dr S.K. Mann, Dean of the college, who was also a participant, said that over 1,500 members from 71 countries participated in the congress titled ‘Nutrition goals of Asia-vision-2020’. PAU faculty members and students presented 14 papers on topics such as specific dietary intakes for sports women, diabetic patients and heart patients. Other topics covered results of research work carried out on the use of frozen vegetables, iodine content in salt, sprouted legumes as weaning food, effect of wheat processing and child obesity.

The participants included Dr C.K. Hira, Head of the department, Dr I.K. Singh, former head of the department, Dr T. Gulati, Dr Rita Jain, Dr Balvinder Sidana, Dr Anita Kochhar, Dr Harpreet Grewal, Dr Kiran Bains, Dr T.S. Verma, Dr Jaswinder Sangha, two M.Sc and one Ph.D student.
