Khalsa College for women athletics meet

Ludhiana, February 21
Parveen and Kamaljeet, both students of B.A-II emerged victorious in the shot put and 400 mts race, respectively, in the 42nd Annual Athletics Meet of Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, here today.

Parveen of B A II and Joginder Kaur of BA-I finished second and third, respectively, in shot put, while in the 400 m race, Harpreet of B A I and Kanchan, B.Sc second and third, respectively.

Earlier, Mr Kartar Singh, Director, Sports, Punjab inaugurated the two-day meet in which more than 400 students were taking part.

Dr Varinder Kaur, Principal of the college, welcomed the chief guest.

Mr Kartar Singh announced a grant of Rs 21,000 for sports activities in the college. Prominent players of the college who represented the city and the state in the various meets included Paramjit Kaur (handball), Harpreet (athletics), Amanpreet (cricket), Anuradha (cricket), Harpreet Kaur (volleyball) and Jaspreet Kaur (athletics) lit the game torch.

Results:- Javelin throw — 1 Rajinder Kaur, 2 Sandeep Kaur, 3 Patrveen Kaur; Slow cycling — 1 Ratna, 2 Manidaer, 3 Paridhi; Three-legged race- 1 Beant and Ravinder, 2 Joginder and Jagdeep, 3 Malika and Pridhi.

Shot put —1 Jaspreet, 2 Parveen, 3 Joginder Kaur; 400 m race — 1 Kamaljit Kaur, 2 Harpreet, 3 Kanchan; Staff race — 1 Kuldip, 2 Aradhana, 3 Ranjit Kaur; Clerical staff race — 1 Balbir, 2 Surjit, 3 Bhagwant Kaur.

Discus throw — 1 Ravinder, 2 Jaspreet, 3 Manpreet; 100 m hurdles — 1 Harpreet, 2 Manpreet, 3 Harkampreet Kaur; 200 m — 1 Harpreet, 2 Jagdeep, 3 Rajwinder; Chati race — 1 Joginder, 2 Niti Sharma, 3 Maninder; Old students shot put — 1 Surinder Kaur, 2 Jatinder Kaur, 3 Jyoti Mann.

Prerna, Manpreet excel

Ludhiana, February 21
Prerna and Manpreet stole the limelight in the 60th Annual Sports Meet of the Government College for Women here which commenced today. Prerna came out triumphant in shot put and bagged third position in high jump while Manpreet won high jump event and finished runners up in shot put and long jump events, respectively.

Earlier, Dr Inderjit Gill Vashisht, Principal of the college, declared the two-day meet open.

Results: High jump — 1 Manpreet, 2 Sunita, 3 Prerna; Shot put — 1 Prerna, 2 Manpreet, 3 Manisha; Long jump — 1 Manisha, 2 Manpreet, 3 Kamaljit; 100 m hurdles — 1 Ravinder, 2 Kamaljit, 3 Sukhjinder; 1500 m race- 1 Rajni Rani, 2 Inderjit Kaur, 3 Rajwinder Kaur.

Budhewal sports fest results

Ludhiana, February 21
The inaugural football match (senior) between Ghungrali Rajputan and Fine Switch Gear, Phagwara, ended in a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the 50th Annual Sports Festival of Bhudewal, near here, being organised by the Gram Panchayat and Sports Club of Budhewal today.

In the 50 kg (football), Budhewal beat Gararha 1-0, Ghungrali defeated Kokri 2-0, Sahabana beat Bhamian 2-1, Madhewal beat Bhukhari 2-0, Dhanasu beat Kandiana 2-1, Ramgarh defeated Budhewal Mill 3-2, Sahabana beat Manewal 4-3 and Kulaianwal beat Jhabewal 1-0. In volleyball, ITI beat Gahewadi, Uplan beat Sanghe, Sohle beat Budhewal and Saharan Majra beat Kone.
