Bahadurgarh Govt College may start PG courses soon
Our Correspondent

Jhajjar, February 15
Government College in Bahadurgarh could soon introduce ‘honours’ and postgraduate level courses, if the recommendations of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council are implemented.

The council, an autonomous body of the University Grants Commission, has made this recommendation after assessing the academic and infrastructure facilities in the college.

The assessment team members were Prof Santosh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Dr Hari Singh Gour Vishwa Vidhyalaya, Sagar University, Prof P. K. Chaudhri, ex-member secretary (WBSCHE), Kolkata, Prof V. K. Saluja, principal, MG (W) College, Jabalpur and Dr B. R. Manju Nath, academic consultant, Bangalore.

The principal of the college, Dr R. C. Marwah, told the ‘NCR Tribune’ that the recommendations have been forwarded to the Haryana Government by the UGC for implementation.

He said the financial burden, following the implementation of the council’s recommendations, would be shared by the state government and the UGC.

The council said: “The college teaches all arts and science subjects at the ‘pass’ level now. The students are in a disadvantageous position in respect of admission to postgraduate programmes. The college may try to introduce `honours’ courses and restore the postgraduate programmes that were earlier taught in the college.”

The UGC body made these recommendations keeping in view that the college is the only co-educational one in the sub-divisional town of Bahadurgarh.

It was felt that in view of the ongoing globalisation and liberalisation in various fields including higher studies, such ‘honours’ and postgraduate courses need to be taught.

The team of specialists made these recommendations after studying the dedication and commitment of the principal, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college, the good teamwork among the staff and the healthy relationship between teachers and students.

The recommendations come also after monitoring the students’ conduct and attendance in classes as well as in class tests and informing the parents about the performance of their wards and the active role played by teachers in promoting students’ participation in various activities.

Teachers attend leadership programme
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, February 15
To assist schools in facing multiple challenges like high-risk learners, multicultural student bodies and the demands of the job market, a six-day Education Leadership Programme (ELP) was organised in the Capital.

Organised by the Centre for Education Management and Development (CEMD), the programme, called ‘Facilitative Leadership’, was aimed at helping educators become more effective and empowered, become system thinkers and be able to provide state-of-the-art education.

It was pointed out that professional classroom teacher often lacked skills in managing systems and providing leadership to students, teachers and community. The role of professional development for administrators was therefore critical.

The ELP that concluded here today was attended by teachers from various schools in the city. “The whole process was very enlightening and since it was activity based, the presentations were far more interesting. Programmes as this should be made essential for educational institutes, as they are essential for creating a competitive atmosphere,” said Mr K. J. Kurien of Mont Ford School.

The programme highlighted that educational leaders must create and support opportunities for authentic involvement of all stakeholders in institutional change and improvement guided by vision. It was also pointed out that educational leaders must create dynamic schools by nurturing and sustaining the process of dialogue, decision making and evaluation that led to improvement of schools.
