Jagtar memorial hockey meet from tomorrow

Ludhiana, February 15
The Surjeet Academy of Jalandhar, Kila Raipur Sports Academy, Sports School of Jalandhar, SAI of Kurukshetra, Namdhari XI of Bhaini Sahib, Fardidkot XI, Prithipal Academy of Ludhiana, Lucknow XI and Ropar Hawks will participate in the IInd All-India Jagtar Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament scheduled to be held here at the Prithipal Singh astroturf ground of Punjab Agricultural University from February 17 to 21.

Mr Gurinderpreet Singh, organising secretary of the Jagtar Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament Committee, informed that all arrangements for the meet to be organised in association with the PAU Hockey Association had been completed. The members of the visiting teams would be accommodated at various places on the PAU campus.

The tournament is being conducted in the memory of Jagtar Singh, a renowned lawyer, an international hockey star and founder of the Ludhiana District Hockey Association. The matches during the five-day meet will be played on league-cum-knock-out basis. Mr Gurcharan Singh Ghalib, MP, will inaugurate the meet on February 17 at 9 a.m. while Dr K.S. Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, will preside over the inaugural function. Mr Tej Parkash Singh, state Transport Minister, will be the chief guest on the concluding day.
