Hansraj Model canter away with cricket crown

New Delhi, February 12
Devastating bowling performances by Prateek Vadera (3 for 11) and left-arm medium-pacer Kumar Abhishek helped Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh defeat Salwan Boys School by two wickets and annexed the R R Gymkhana R P Jain Inter-School Under-16 Cricket Tournament at the Bharat Nagar ground.

Though Devender Kumar’s half century went in vain for Salwan School, he nevertheless earned the Man of the Match award. He was also adjudged the Man of the Tournament trophy.

Neeraj Bansal was declared the best batsman while Kumar Abhishek earned the Best Bowler award. Chirag Mehta received the best wicket-keeper award while Pawan Chauhan was awarded the best upcoming player trophy. Ganga School received the best disciplined team award.

Salwan Boys school principal R S Dabas gave away the prizes. Pramod Jain, Sarwan Kumar, Sanjay Bhardwaj, Praveen Jain, Ashok Sharma, M K Sharma, P K Sony and Ramesh Sachdev were also present.

Scores: Salwan Boys: 115 all out in 36.4 overs (Devender Kumar 53, Sawan Saini 26, Prateek Vadera 3 for 11, Kumar Abhishek 3 for 14, Manish Pawa 2 for 20).

Hansraj Model School: 117 for 8 in 38.1 overs (Neeraj Bansal 36, Kumar Abhishek 3 for 14, Yogesh Nagar 3 for 7, Sawan Saini 2 for 22).

Sodhi, Gagan star for Indian Airlines

An all-round performance by Ritender Singh Sodhi (3 for 27 and 37 n o) and deadly bowling by Gagan Deep Singh (3 for 11) enabled Indian Airlines defeat Delhi Blues by nine wickets and enter the quarter-final of the third Rajdhani Sports Cricket Tournament at the Khalsa College ground. Sodhi received the Man of the Match award.

Scores: Blues: 97 all out in 31.2 overs (Amit Sharma 24, Nitin Goyal 18, Amzad Vohra 23, Gagan Deep Singh 3 for 11, Ritender Singh Sodhi 3 for 27, Sonu Sharma 2 for 15).

Indian Airlines: 98 for 1 in 18.3 overs (Ritender Singh Sodhi 37 n o, Ravneet Rickey 37 n o).

In another match, Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) defeated Delhi Development Authority (DDA) by eight wickets.

Scores: DDA: 189 for 9 in 40 overs (Suresh Kohli 44, Govind Nagar 32, Shiv Kumar 32 n o, Ravi Sehgal 2 for 40, Nitesh Malik 2 for 16).

ONGC: 192 for 2 in 22.2 overs (Radhey Shyam Gupta 75 n o, Gautam Vadera 51 n o, Ravi Sahgal 49).

Railway Officers win

Railway Officers defeated Citicorp by eight wickets in a league match of the tenth Teri Cup Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval.

Scores: Citicorp: 119 for 9 in 25 overs (Rohit Gulati 46 n o, 3x4, 3x6; Silpi K Chowdhury 26, 2x4; Diwakar Pundhir 20, 3x4; Sunil Rawat 5 for 11).

Railway Officers: 121 for 2 wickets in 13.4 overs (Rajeev Mahajan 58, 10x4; Bhupinder Singh 46 n o, 3x4). Rajeev Mahajan was named the Man of the Match.

Jalandhar college on a goal-rush

New Delhi, February 12
DAV College, Jalandhar steamrolled past Jamal Mohd College, Tiruchirappalli, 13-0 in the 10th Nehru Champion Colleges Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Wednesday.

Amarjeet Singh opened Jalandhar’s goal-glut when he converted a penalty corner in the fifth minute. He converted three more penalty corners to account for the seventh, tenth and 11th goals. In between, Yadwinder Singh scored a field goal in the eighth minute to make it 2-0, Harmanpreet accounted for the third and fourth goals, the last coming off a penalty corner and Navpreet Singh struck in the fifth goal to complete the first half scoring.

On resumption, Ravinder Singh, Harmeet Singh, Ravi Pal and Roop Singh scored the sixth, eighth, ninth and 12th goals respectively.

Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar also notched up a big victory when they routed SGGS College, Chandigarh 5-1.

Kulbir Singh blasted in the first and second goals while Satwinder Singh scored the third goal to give the Jalandhar College a 3-0 lead at half time.

Immediately after resumption, Gaurav Tokhi converted a penalty corner to pull off a consolation goal. But the Jalandhar team added two more goals through Harsh Dhir and Harpreet Singh respectively.

In the third match, Faculty of Social Sciences, Jamia Milia Islamia (Delhi) trounced Municipal College, Rourkela 5-2. The match had begun on an even note as after Deepak Kumar put the Delhi team ahead in the eighth minute, Pradipta Guru scored the equaliser for Rourkela in the 14th minute.

Sanjeet Kumar converted a penalty corner to regain the lead for Jamia, which was consolidated by him three minutes after resumption. Jitender Saroha scored the fourth goal while Parbhakar Singh completed the tally in the 61st minute. Sushil Aind got the second goal for the Rourkela college.

A-G Haryana down Punjab, to meet Delhi in final

The Central Revenue team of Delhi, which beat A-G Uttar Pradesh, to enter the final of the North Zone Audit Football Tournament.

New Delhi, February 12
Accountant-General, Haryana (Chandigarh) edged past Accountant-General, Punjab 1-0 and entered the final of the North Zone Audit Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday.

Rajesh Sharma slotted in the match-winner with a rising shot from the left flank in the 28th minute.

A-G Haryana will meet Director-General of Audit, Central Revenues (Delhi), in the final on Thursday at 2 pm. Both Haryana and Delhi have qualified for the Inter-Zone Tournament. The tourney will be held in Chandigarh in March.

Delhi had beaten, A-G Uttar Pradesh (Allahabad) 4-0. Rishi Kapoor, Sameer Jung, Naresh Mann and Hitender Singh Rawat scored the goals for Delhi, who led by 2-0 at half time.

Southern, ICF and Eastern in semis

Southern Railway, Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and Eastern Railway stormed into the semi-finals of the 49th All-India Railway Tennis Championship being played at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association complex.

Southern Railway beat Eastern Railway while ICF got the better of Central Railway. Eastern Railway rolled past Northern Railway.

Following are the results: Northern Railway beat Railway Board (first round) 2-0 (Atul Kumar b V Shankar 6-2,6-3; Hanuman Singh b M Nigam 6-0,6-1). Quarter-finals: Southern Railway b South Eastern Railway 2-0 (Vijay Kannan b Dilip Kumar 6-2,6-1; Rishi Sridhar b Ram Kumar 6-0,6-2); ICF b Central Railway 2-1 (G Venkatesh lost to Shivshankar 6-7, 2-6; U K Reddy b Anoop Minda 6-1,6-2; G Venkatesh and U K Reddy beat Shivshankar and Anoop Minda 7-5,2-6,7-5);

Eastern Railway b Northern Railway 2-0 (Vinod Kumar Sewa b Atul Kumar 6-1,6-0; Siddartha Verma b Hanuman Singh 6-2,6-0).

Kritika adjudged best athlete

Kritika Bhandari bagged four gold medals to emerge as the best athlete in the Inter-House Athletic Meet for Junior Girls of Modern School, Barakhamba Road.

Kritika, a promising athlete, won the 100 metres and 200 metres gold medals to display her talent in the sprint event. This was followed by her victory in the 4x100m relay and the long jump finals.

Order to stop construction

Rohtak, February 12
The Assistant Collector (First Class), Rohtak has ordered that no construction be undertaken on plots allotted to 118 people under a special scheme till the court decides on the matter.

The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ashok Yadav, said the then Gram Panchayat had ignored the direction of the government and violated the terms and conditions during the allotment of such plots. he said a survey had found that 118 beneficiaries were ineligible for the scheme. OC
