Seema Rani is best athlete

The 29th annual athletics meet of girls of the local Guru Nanak National College, concluded here today.
The meet was inaugurated by Mr Paramjit Singh Sarao, SSP, Khanna.

The guests were welcomed by Dr Ishwar Singh, president of the College Managing Committee.

The results are:

Seema Rani was declared the best athlete for the second time.

100m: Seema Rani 1, Veenu 2, Sandeep Kaur 3.

Long jump : Harpreet Kaur 1, Rajdeep Kaur 2, Seema Rani 3.

Shotput : Sandeep Kaur 1, Pritam Kaur 2, Seema Rani 3.

200m: Seema Rani 1, Pardeep Kaur 2, Maninder Kaur 3.

1500m: Seema Rani 1, Pardeep Kaur 2, Pritpal Kaur 3.

High jump: Jagjit Kaur 1, Harpreet Kaur 2, Navdeep Kaur 3.

Discus throw : Harpreet Kaur 1, Ranjit Kaur 2, Sandeep Kaur 3.

1500m (cycle race): Seema Rani 1, Lovely Sharma 2, Sukhwinder Kaur 3.

Three- legged race: Parandeep Kaur and Jagjit Kaur 1, Pritpal Kaur and Maninder Kaur 2, Sandeep Kaur and Harpreet Kaur 3.

400m: Seema Rani 1, Mandeep Kaur 2, Maninder Kaur 3.

Chati race: Harjit Kaur 1, Mandeep Kaur 2, Maninder Kaur 3.

Sack race: Sandeep Kaur 1, Sandeep Kaur 2, Jasmin Bawa 3. Tug of war was won by the staff of the college.

Ludhiana
Judo results:
Judokas from Malwa Khalsa School (35 points) and Nav Bharti School (25 points) bagged the over-all trophy in the junior girls’, and boys’ sections, respectively, in the Ludhiana District Judo Championship held at the ground in front of the multi-purpose hall of the Guru Nanak Sports Complex, here today. In the girls’ section, Government School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, and Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School secured 19 and 17 points to finish second and third, respectively. In the boys’ section, Bhartiya Vidya Mandir garnered 21 points and Government Senior Secondary School, PAU, got 19 points to finish second and third, respectively.

Earlier, Mr Devinder Singh Walia, president, Ludhiana District Judo Association, inaugurated the meet. Mr Rajiv Katna, MC Councillor, gave away the prizes.

On this occasion, six players were honoured for their outstanding performance in various international and national tournaments. Those honoured were Surinder Singh (bronze medal in the Junior Asian Meet at Vietnam), Mohinder Singh (participated in the Junior International Judo Meet in Cairo), Aarti Sharma (Junior International Meet in Poland), Bhupinder Singh (silver medal in Junior National Meet at Indore), Rajnish Sharma (bronze medal at Indore) and Manpreet Singh (bronze medal in the Sub-Junior National Meet at Lucknow).

Cash prizes of Rs 1,000 each was given to Surinder Singh, Mohinder Singh and Aarti Sharma, while Bhupinder Singh received Rs 700. Rajnish and Manpreet got Rs 500 each.

Judokas to be honoured: The Punjab Judo Association (PJA) will felicitate judokas who had won medals in the last National Games held at Hyderabad. According to a press note issued here today by Mr Avtar Singh Grewal, honorary secretary, PJA, those who clinched medals at Hyderabad would be honoured at a function to be held here at the Guru Ram Dass Academy tomorrow at 11.30 am. Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, Minister, Punjab and president, PJA, will be the chief guest.
