Chandigarh, February 5 Mr N.C. Wadhwa, Chief Administrator, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), informed the CM about the remaining projects of the said sports complex having a total area of 50 acres. Later, the cricket stadium, with a capacity of 25,000 people, was handed over to the Haryana Sports Department. The seating arrangements in the stadium is a departure from the past practice as lush green lawns will house spectators so that they can enjoy matches on the pattern of Australian rolling grounds. The CM stayed only for few minutes in the stadium. Mr Chautala evinced interest in cricket and golf and enquired from HUDA officials about the facilities to be provided in the sports complex. He was told that the indoor badminton hall, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.33 lakh was inaugurated last month. Other facilities in the sports complex include, athletics stadium, basketball, volleyball and kabaddi grounds. |
Energy park proposed Chandigarh, February 5 The Department of Science and Technology of the UT has proposed a multi-crore park spread over 3 acres at the village. If the project report sought by the Central Government for funding is approved, it will take about six months to complete the park. The Central Government had indicated that if the project was approved, it would get 100 per cent grant. The park has been conceptualised to promote non-conventional sources of energy. The most interesting aspect of the park will be that a furnished and household gadget-equipped guest house will be available on rent. Every thing from a fridge, geyser and music system to kitchen equipment will be run on solar energy. Initially one house is being planned but if the response is good, more houses would be built. Solar cars from Japan will be imported for Rs 72,000. Four-seater Reva cars costing Rs 2.5 lakh for adults will also be acquired. A cyber cafe with computers being run on solar energy will also be on display. A canteen is also being planned where cooking will be done using solar energy. |
Lake or dam over Ghaggar likely: minister Panchkula, February 5 He said the work on either of the projects could be finalised only after considering all pros and cons. Earlier, the State Irrigation Department had decided to develop the low-cost dam project from the point of view of encouraging tourism by including water sport and fishing sites in the project. The aim is to recharge ground water and provide Kalka, Pinjore, Chandi Mandir Cantonement and Panchkula with drinking water. The low-height dam, to be constructed near Pinjore, would also help in controlling floods downstream, especially in large areas of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. The project, on the lines of the Sukhna project of Chandigarh, was envisaged by the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, last year. Since then, the HUDA and officials of the State Irrigation Department have conducted several surveys along the
