Two extra days of pulse polio drive
Tribune News Service

Faridabad, February 3
The district health authorities are determined to make the pulse polio campaign in the district a ‘success’. Their earlier claim about the ‘success’ of the pulse polio campaign in the district turned out to be a great ‘embarrassment’, as polio cases were detected in the district last year.

The officials have now announced that their workers and volunteers would also administer polio drops on February 10 and 11, after the main campaign on February 9 comes to an end.

At a meeting held at MCF auditorium here today, the officials of the Health department in the district told the Deputy Commissioner and other participants that the one-day pulse polio drive would continue for two extra days and volunteers would go from house to house to ensure that every child upto the age of five years were administered polio drops.

The authorities, however, appealed to the people to visit their nearest pulse polio booth on February 9 itself and not wait for the volunteers to come to their houses.

Earlier, addressing a meeting attended by the panches, sarpanches, members of local bodies, teachers and voluntary groups, the Deputy Commissioner said that it was the duty of every official, employee and worker of the Health Department to see that no child was left out of the pulse polio campaign.

He said one child affected with the disease could be a source for its spread to other children in the area.

He said the fact that 4.64 lakh children were given polio drops in November 2002 and it rose to 4.88 lakh in January last, suggested that some of the children may have been left out in the earlier drive.
