Hindustan drub Moonlight in DSA League
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, February 2
Reigning champions Hindustan Club drubbed Moonlight 3-0 in the first leg semi-final of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Senior Division League at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.

In another semi-final match, New Delhi Heroes were held to a goalless draw by Indian Air Force. The second leg of the two semi-final matches will be played on Tuesday.

Hindustan Club, who failed to convert a penalty kick early in the match when Sameer Jung shot wide, made amends for this crucial lapse when they slotted in three goals through Samee Jung, Sanjeev Yadav and M K Candid. Sameer shot home from the edge of the box in the 14th minute to score the first goal. Before the interval, Hindustan missed a chance to enhance their lead when midfielder Felix’s shot hit the bar after grazing the hands of custodian Umesh.

Moonlight too came near scoring, but Ajay Kumar’s header was tipped over the bar by Hindustan goalie Saleem Ansari.

Hindustan forged ahead through Yadav immediately after the restart of the match and Candid cemented the lead with a thunderbolt shot. Moonlight too had their share of chances, but their forwards failed to convert them into goals.

Tuesday’s fixtures: N D Heroes vs Indian Air Force (1 pm); Hindustan vs Moonlight (3 pm) — Ambedkar Stadium.
