City Club drub Tarun Sangha

New Delhi, January 28
City Club scored once in each half to drub Tarun Sangha in a Pool A match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Super League at the Ambedkar Stadium on Tuesday.

Irfan Khan scored the first goal in the 37th minute and Faiz Alam slammed home the second goal late in the second half. Irfan scored his goal with an angular shot from outside the box. Faiz Alam received a cross from the left and slipped in the ball without any fuss.

The match was played on a slushy ground, and as a result, the game was played at a slow pace.

City Club completed their league engagements, securing six points from four matches. Their chances of qualifying for the semi-final will be clear only after the match between Indian Air Force and Tarun Sangha on Thursday. The Airmen have four points, and if they beat Tarun Sangha, they will be through to the semis. Hindustan have already qualified for the semi-final from Pool A.

Wednesday’s fixture: Moonlight vs Delhi Police (3 pm)—Ambedkar Stadium.

IG Stadium lift Shakuntala Devi title

Indira Gandhi Stadium Cricket Coaching Centre defeated East Point Sumeet Dogra Cricket Academy by 22 runs to lift the third Shakuntala Devi Memorial Cricket Tournament Trophy at the East Point School ground.

Farman Ahmed, who scored a dashing 81 for I G Stadium, was adjudged the man of the tournament. Farman also earned the man of the match award.

Aman Arora was presented the best all-rounder award while Aditya Aima was named the best batsman. Yogesh Virman and R.S.Tripathi were given the best bowler and best fielder awards respectively. Former Indian Test cricketers Chetan Sharma and Gursharan Singh were among those who witnessed the match.

Scores: I G Stadium: 227 all out in 43 overs (Farman Ahmed 81, Jaspreet Narula 42, Aman Arora 4 for 42, Yogesh Virmani 2 for 26). East Point Sumeet Dogra Academy: 205 all out in 43.2 overs (Mayank Sethi 52, Piyush Negi 51, Farman Ahmed 3 for 41).

Najafgarh residents felicitate Sehwag

Cricket star Virender Sehwag was felicitated by the residents of Najafgarh, under the leadership of Dr Shiv Raj, head of the Gobhania Nirog Dham.
The residents of this urban village on the outskirts of Delhi prayed for the success of Sehwag in the World Cup Cricket Championship in South Africa.

Dr Shiv Raj said the people of Najafgarh were proud of their “Veeru”, who has popularised the name of Najafgarh, in the outback of Delhi, among the cricket-playing countries. The people of Najafgarh hoped that Sehwag would emulate the feats of players like Mohinder Amarnath and Kapil Dev and emerge as the “hero” of the World Cup.

Puneet stars for R P Academy

A brilliant all-round performance by ten-year-old Puneet Walia (5 for 19 and 31) helped R P Academy defeat Frank Anthony School by six wickets in a league match of the first Chetan Sharma Academy Under-12 Cricket Tournament at the S S Khalsa School ground.

National Institute of Sports (NIS) beat Gyan Bharti Academy by 58 runs at the Bhagat Singh College ground. Shivam Sharma cracked an unbeaten 90 for the winners.

Scores: Frank Anthony School: 82 all out in 18.4 overs (Angad Walia 31, Ashrey Kumar 24, Puneet Walia 5 for 19, Siddarth Kumar 3 for 14).

R P Academy: 85 for 4 in 21.2 overs (Puneet Walia 31, Vaibhav Rawal 20).

NIS: 154 for 4 in 25 overs (Shivam Sharma 90 n.o, S Vinay Chauhary 34, Trigun Das 2 for 25). Gyan Bharti South Delhi Academy: 96 all out in 23.3 overs (Abhilash Malik 25, Dishank Dhawan 25, Sachin Kumar 3 for 13).

PBL beat Sapient Corporation

Pen Business Ltd. (PBL) defeated Sapient Corporation by 33 runs and entered the semi-final of the first Turf Sports Management Cup Cricket Tournament at the Venkateshwara College ground.

Scores: PBL: 196 for 4 in 22 overs (Rakesh Rawat 65, Harender Rawat 41, Prashant Kumar 32, Nitin Kumar 30, Amit Kumar 3 for 39).

Sapient Corporation: 163 all out in 21.3 overs (Nikhil Swaroop 36, Neelesh Kumar 44, Neeraj Jain 30, Nitin Kumar 3 for 24).

Rushil Bhaskar deadly

A devastating 5 for 15 spell by Rushil Bhaskar helped Mt. St. Mary’s School beat Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj by eight wickets in the sixth Rohtak Road Gymkhana R P Jain Inter-School Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the St. Mary’s ground.

Scores: DPS: 90 all out in 26.3 overs (Sanchit Jakar 36, Mayank Sharma 30, Rushil Bhaskar 5 for 15, Rohan Kumar 2 for 12, Shobit Chandok 3 for 16).

Mt. St. Mary’s: 91 for 2 in 21.1 overs (Raunak Kapoor 34 no, Mukul Dangar 31).

RCF, ICF enter hockey semi-finals

Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala and Integral Coach Factory, Chennai completed the semi-final line-ups when they beat South Central Railway 5-3 and North Eastern Railway 5-2 via tie-breakers in the PNB-All India Railway Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Tuesday. Both the matches ended in deadlocks during the regulation play, necessitating tie-breaker shoot-outs. RCF took the lead in the 27th minute when Lalit Ekka put the ball in the goal.

But I Minz equalised for South Central Railway in the 46th minute of second half (1-1).

In the tie-breaker, Sabal Kumar Ekka, Satwant Singh, Bhupinder Singh and Anuranjan Tete scored for RCF while only Johnson Ekka and Sham could find the mark for South Central.

Tarun Makar stars for Hughes

An impressive all-round performance by Tarun Makar, who scored 83 runs and then claimed two wickets for 16 runs helped Hughes Software defeat Oks Team by 100 runs in the Champions Trophy Cricket Tournament at the Palam ground. Tarun was named the man of the match.

Scores: Hugues Software: 206 for 5 in 25 overs (Tarun 83, Abhishek 53, Parveen 38, Dalver 2 for 39, Neeraj 2 for 37). OKS Team: 106 all out in 24 overs (Ravi 30, Sanjay 26, Sudarshan 19, Amit Khullar 5 for 8).

Siemens move into final

Siemens beat SISL by six wickets and entered the final of the Friendship Cup Cricket Tournament at the Delhi Development Authority sports complex, Saket. OSR

Abbas Raza shines

New Delhi, January 28
A strokeful 87 by Abbas Raza helped Railway Officers defeat Orient Craft by 152 runs in a league match of the tenth Teri Cup Cricket Tournament at the Central Secretariat ground. Abbas Raza was named the man of the match.

Scores: Railway Officers: 221 for 5 in 25 overs (Abbas Raza 87, 11x4, 1x6, 62b; Bhupinder 67, 6x4; Rajeev Mahajan 35, 5x4; Manoj Sharma 3 for 37).
