JKLF to lay claim to Hurriyat office

Srinagar, January 28
The splinter group of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, headed by Mohammad Iqbal Gandaroo, yesterday said it would ‘soon’ lay claim to a post in the Hurriyat Executive Council to replace the incumbent Mohammad Yaseen Malik.

“We will soon put our case before the Hurriyat Conference for a place in the executive council and we hope the amalgam will take a good decision in this regard,” Baramula district organiser of the JKLF (Gandaroo) Mubashirul Islam told reporters after the district office bearers joined the splinter group.

Mr Gandroo was released after several years of detention last November and set up a splinter group claiming ideological differences with the main group under the leadership of Malik. The entire unit of the JKLF from Baramula district pledged its support to the splinter group.

Islam said they had decided to strengthen the hands of Gandaroo after a meeting last week.

Islam claimed that there was discontent against Malik’s leadership in neighbouring Kupwara unit of the organisation. PTI
