Dawn of hope breaking in J&K: Sayeed Jammu, January 25 “The nation, particularly the political leadership, should extend its helping hand to the state’s efforts in restoring peace with dignity and honour, and in accelerating the economic development of its people,” Mufti Sayeed said. In a message on the eve of Republic Day the Chief Minister said while rest of the country had been reaping fruits of democracy ever since it attained Independence Kashmir had tryst with democracy only last October. This transparent election had thrown up a historical opportunity for the nation to take the bull of adverse situation by its horns, ensure return of peace and extend to Jammu and Kashmir the
benefit of economic advancement registered in the country, he said. The stupendous task could be achieved only through the cooperation of the people.

BJP wants more constituencies carved Jammu, January 25 State BJP General Secretary Bali Bhagat, who returned after a day-long brainstorming session in New Delhi, said delimitation had been a long-pending demand of the people of the state, particularly Jammu and Ladakh regions and should be undertaken on population, area and other factors. The meeting, convened by party National General Secretary Arun Jaitley, was part of efforts to end discrimination against neglected regions, a BJP release said. Mr Bhagat also raised the issue of census report which he alleged was distorted. “Population of the Kashmir valley has been shown” 11 lakh more than that the Jammu region which is far from the reality,” he added. “During the past 13 years of militancy, four lakh people have migrated from Kashmir while thousands lost their lives, the population figure would have been much less as compared to Jammu region... even as per the 1981 census and projected figures of 1991 to the population of the valley has been notified as much less, Mr Bhagat said. Substantiating his claim, the BJP leader claimed even during the recently held Assembly elections, the Election Commission figures had shown 2.50 lakh voters more in the Jammu region as compared to that of Kashmir valley. He said the census report was not reliable and demanded a high-level inquiry into the issue.
