Wrestler refused job for ‘abnormal’ ears
Arvind Katyal

Chandigarh, January 24
Ashok Kumar, a wrestler of Chandigarh, who had cleared all preliminary tests for the post of Constable in the Central Reserve Police Force, was rejected on medical grounds due to “abnormal” ears. Ashok Kumar in his letter to the Commandant, CRPF, Hallo Majra, has pleaded his case for this undue harassment at the hands of doctors.

He stated in the letter that he cleared all tests conducted by the department. But on January 10, he was declared unfit due to “abnormal” ears. He said as a wrestler it was normal to lose shape with excessive wrestling. As per various doctors from whom he got his ears checked, there was no problem of hearing. Ashok said he belonged to a poor family with his three brothers working as labourers. Ashok Kumar told Chandigarh Tribune that a deliberate attempt had been made by the doctor on duty to keep him out.

Meanwhile, wrestling experts are of the view that losing the shape of the ears was quite common in the sport.
