Statutory warning on chocolates?

New Delhi, January 12
Like cigarettes, Health Minister A. K. Walia wants chocolates and aerated drinks to carry the statutory warning that consuming them is injurious to oral health.

The observation came in the course of his address today to the first national conference of the newly floated Dental Practitioners Forum of India.

“Ninety per cent of the NCT of Delhi’s population is ailing from periodontal (of the gum) diseases. Eighty per cent of children have dental caries,” Mr Walia told delegates. TNS

Sanjeev helps Youngsters enter q-final

A debonair knock of 99, containing seven boundaries and six sixes off 50 balls, and 2 for 12 bowling spell by Sanjeev Rana, helped Youngsters Club defeat Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee by 142 runs and entered the quarter-final of the seventh Sahibzada Ajit Singh Cricket Tournament, organised by the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, at its ground in Pitampura.

Dr Gurdev Singh presented the man of the match award to Sanjeev Rana.

Scores: Youngsters Club: 229 for 4 in 30 overs (Sanjeev Rana 99, Kamal Beniwal 67, 7x4, 1x6; Utkarsh Gautam 23, Harmeet Gill 1 for 26, Sachin Dhaka 1 for 40).

Delhi Gurudwara Management Committee: 87 all out in 23.4 overs (Swaran Singh 23, Farman Ahmed 4 for 40, Sanjeev Rana 2 for 12).

Former Railway Ranji player Durga Prasad’s all-round performance (41 and 2 for 16) helped Super Star Club defeat Delhi Eaglets Club by 60 runs and entered the quarter-final.

Khalsa College director of physical education Pargat Singh presented the Man of the Match award to Durga Prasad.

A dashing knock of 59 by Man of the Match Sahil Kher and fierce bowling by Saurabh Nischal (3 for 14) helped Bharat National Academy beat Gyan Bharti South Delhi Academy by 55 runs and entered the final of the second Mata Durga Devi Under-12 Cricket Tournament at the Bharat National Public School ground, Ram Vihar.

Scores: Bharat National Academy: 176 for 9 in 35 overs (Sahil Kher 59, Jayant Yadav 40, Anukul Chandok 3 for 34).

Gyan Bharti South Delhi Academy: 121 for 9 in 35 overs (Arjun Shiv 27, Abhilash Malik 29, Vidur Sethi 20, Saurabh Nischal 3 for 19, Rahul Pandey 2 for 8).

Hansraj Model School win

Hansraj Model School defeated Janakpuri Club by ten wickets in the first Shanti Memorial Under-14 Cricket Tournament at the Najafgarh Sports Club ground.

Big win for Salwan Public

Salwan Public School trounced Remal Public School by five wickets in the sixth Rohtak Road Gymkhana R P Jain Inter-School Cricket Tournament at the Salwan School ground.

Scores: Remal School: 93 all out in 26.3 overs (Gagan Kapoor 38, Pankaj Goyal 30, Nikhil Sharma 5 for 21).

Young Delhi beat Three Star

Young Delhi Sports Club beat Three Star by 20 runs in a DDCA B Division League match at Kotla No 2 ground. Electing to bat Young Delhi made 296 for 9 in 40 overs.

Salil Oberoi to lead U-19 team

New Delhi, January 12
Salil Oberoi will lead a 16-member Delhi team in the first two games of the M A Chidambaram Trophy Zonal Under-19 one-day matches to be conducted by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) in Delhi. Delhi play their first match against Himachal Pradesh on January 22.

Junior selection committee chairman-cum-convenor Sunil Dev said a key player of the Delhi team, Kunal Lal, opted out due to his exams. He said the selected players will have to report to coach Gyaneshwar Parshad at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground on Monday at 2 pm.

The team: Salil Oberoi (captain), Kuldeep Rawat, Abhishek Sharma, Vivek Khurana, Abhinav Bali, Rohit Sharma, Deepak Sharma, Vikas Lathwal, Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul Ahuja, Sahil Khullar, Arun Mishra, Saurabh Malik, Shadwar Mohd Khan, Mayank Tehlan and Sumit Rana.

St Mrks School defeated Ramal Public School by 37 runs in the sixth Rohtak Road Gymkhana Inter-School Under-16 Cricket Tournament for the R P Jain Trophy at the Government School ground, Vikas Puri.

Scores: St Marks School: 176 for 5 in 35 overs (Tarun Nizawan 38, Mandhir Wadhawa 29, Ankush Panwar 27 n o, Gagan Kapoor 3 for 31).

Remal Public School: 139 all out in 29.3 overs (Gagan Kapoor 45, Ankush Pawar 4 for 32, Tarun Nizawar 3 for 17).

R G Williams Cricket

NSCC defeated St. Columba’s School by 41 runs in the fourth R G Williams Memorial Under-14 Cricket Tournament at the Frank Anthony School ground.

Electing to bat NSCC made 211 for 8 in 35 overs, while St Columba’s made a petty 170 in 35 overs. Shivamand Shery hit century for NSCC.

Satya, Naveen bowl Delhi Police to win

Devastating off-spin bowling by Satya Wardhan (4 for 8) and left-arm spin by Naveen (3 for 11) helped Delhi Police Cricket Club beat Indian Air Force, Palam by 11 runs in a Group B match of the Rajiv Gandhi Smriti North Delhi Cricket League played at the Air Force ground, Palam. Air Force thus suffered their first defeat in two matches.

Delhi Police skipper Nanmeet Kumar won the toss and decided to bat. The match started late due to fog and chilly weather conditions, and was reduced to 25 overs a side.

Putting into bat Delhi Police made 101 in 25 overs all out

An unbeaten knock of 69 by Mukul Dangar and fierce bowling of 3 for 27 by Puneet Walia helped R P Academy beat United Academy by nine wickets and entered the final of the second Mata Durga Devi Under-14 Cricket Tournament at the Bharat National Public School ground. Mukul was named the Man of the Match.

Deadly bowling by Tarun Kumar (3 for 13) helped Mont Fort School beat Shubham Club by 48 runs in the first Shanti Memorial Under-14 Cricket Tournament at the Najafgarh Sports Club ground.

DDA develops another golf course

New Delhi, January 12
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is developing another golf course adjacent to the Bhalaswa Lake in North Delhi.

Spread over an area of 120 acres, the course is being developed as a highly environment friendly course which will have state of the art computerised irrigation system to water the 52.54 hectare of green area. A driving range, three holes, a clubhouse with a pro-shop, change room and a snack bar have already been constructed.

Players can avail of the facility at the golf course on pay and play basis. At the driving range, specialised coaching facility will be made available to upcoming golfers on a pay and play basis.

Water sports, go-karting, and a bowling alley are also under construction. DDA first developed a driving range with flood-lighting at the Siri Fort Sports Complex. The first nine-hole public golf course was commissioned at Lado Sarai in January 2001, which was later converted into an 18-hole course.
