Season’s gazings

I am a regular reader of your paper and wish to mention that it was a pure delight to read Chetna Banerjee’s "Season’s Gazings" (December 29). From tracking down the year’s trends in a very interesting mannerto a review of Bollywood controversies and other developments, the issue provided valuable insights into the scenario that prevailed in 2002. I found it quite informative to go through "Foodies flirt with oysters and ducks..." as it summed up the latest in the line of eats.

Designer spirituality

This refers to "Designer spirituality" by Gitanjali Mahajan (December 22).

Scriptures have never forbidden materialism or living in style except they caution that one must be very conscious all the time. Individualism or austere living should be viewed in the same light or both accepted cheerfully. All those mentioned in the article no doubt are great intellectuals, with a rare gift of the gab and firm grip on scriptures. But what transformation takes place in the lives of listeners of these gurus is still open to doubt.
