To create awareness about the immunisation programme to eradicate polio, a rally organised with the joint efforts of the District Administration, the Health Department, Rotary Clubs of Ludhiana and different schools was flagged off by Mr Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner, and Dr S.N. Tiwari, Civil Surgeon, from Guru Nanak Dev Stadium here today. The rally, which started from the stadium with more than 1,000 schoolchildren, 100 Rotarians, Health officials and other volunteers from various organisations, passed through various areas of the city and ended at Dr B.L. Kapur Memorial Hospital, where the children were given refreshment by the Rotarians. Giving details about the arrangements, Dr S.N. Tiwari informed that the Health Department had formed 100 medical teams to implement the programme on January 5 and apart from this sufficient number of transit posts had been set up at all bus stands and railway stations in the district, where with the help of volunteers of NGOs, the polio drops would be administered to the children below the age of five. The Civil Surgeon further said out of the total 4.76 Lakh children, (2.76 Lakh were in urban areas) and 750 booths had been set up in the cities and towns for this purpose. He said every city resident should ensure that no child was left without being given polio drops.
