An exhibition of paintings, ‘Music of the Spheres’, by well-known artist, Shobha Broota, is on display at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre till January 6.
The simplicity of her work and the techniques used transports the viewer to an altogether different world, from molecular formation in nature to cosmic formations. The artist has performed a number of solo shows across the country and abroad. Art critic Keshav Malik says, “Shobha’s work, in whatever medium, do not overtly claim any whiff of holiness. Not at all. Rather they are her effort to understand and work within the boundaries of an age-old convention, that of the basic harmony or purity of the underlying reality, as of inner reality. The discipline, preparation, effort, contemplation, as the musical sense of the inner ear that have gone into these works is palpable and one would not even dare to sum it up or even outline it. Still it must suffice to say that a lifetime close attention lies behind each of the work shown quite apart from the training in the fundamental skills of geometry, drawing and colour.” Shobha Broota in her long quest of artistic creations, has gone through a lot of changes and has painted various facets like portraits, human forms, birds, animals, insects and varying elements of nature- water, air and space.
