All set for pulse polio campaign

Ludhiana, January 2
More than 4.75 lakh children will be administered polio drops in the district under a statewide pulse polio campaign on January 5 and February 9, said Dr Joginder Singh, Director, Health Services, Punjab, here today.

Talking to mediapersons in the Civil Surgeon’s office, Dr Joginder Singh said all the necessary arrangements had been made to make the campaign successful. Giving details, Dr S.N. Tiwari, Civil Surgeon said over 1963 posts would be set up in the district on January 5. “In all 790 posts will be set up in the city, whereas 1173 booths will be set up in the rural areas. About 72 posts will be set up along various roads and 24 posts will be set up at railway stations. There will be more than 100 mobile posts for carrying out door-to-door campaign in slum areas”, said Dr S.N. Tiwari.

Students of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Homeopathic Medical College, Sigma Training Institute will also take part in the campaign. “Health workers of the Municipal Corporation will also be deputed in the district”, said Dr Tiwari.

The Health Department has appealed to the volunteers of various social organisations and NGOs to come forward and extend their cooperation. A rally will be taken out on January 4 from Rakh Bagh to make people aware of the need of getting polio drops administered to their children of up to five years of age.

Lodhi Kabaddi Cup

Khamano, January 2
The International Lodhi Kabaddi Cup Tournament will be held on January 30 in Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana.
Kabaddi teams from America, England, Germany, Canada and India will take part in the tournament. Stating this here Avtar Singh Khamano, president of the organising body, said the meet would be held under the command of Mr Beant Singh Dhaliwal, president of the youth Akali Dal, Canada.

He said cash prizes would be given to the winning teams. The best raider and the best stopper would get motor cycles as reward.
