clinches five gold medals

Sabeeha Dhillon continued with her medal run when she shot five gold medals and a silver medal at the end of the 27th Northern India Shooting Championship at the Patiali Ki Rao Shooting Ranges, Sector 25, here today. Sabeeha, a BA (II) student of the local MCM DAV College for Women, won the gold medal in the .22 sports rifle prone, in individual and team championship, sports rifle 3 position (ISSF) and 10-metre air rifle senior women team championship and a silver medal in the individual junior women 10-metre air rifle section. In the overall team championship, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) bagged the shooting academy cup. However, the organisers did not announce the best shooters among males and females this year also. In the free rifle ISSF prone junior men section, Gandharv Chauhan of the BSF won the gold medal, while Arjun Pratap Singh of Chandigarh got the silver medal. Arjun Pratap also clinched the bronze medal in the senior men civilian section in free rifle ISSF prone. Priti Sharma of Chandigarh won the gold medal in sports pistol (NR) junior women section, while Nanki Singh, also of Chandigarh, got the silver medal. Priti also won the gold medal in the .22 std rifle OS (NR) prone in the senior women section, while Anu Prashar and Pinky Chaudhary of Chandigarh got the second and third places, respectively. Lieut-Col J.S. Ahluwalia won the gold medal in the veteran air pistol event. In the handicapped category, Anil of Uttar Pradesh won the gold medal, while Arvind Tomar bagged the silver medal and Karam Singh the bronze medal. Mr Rajesh Kumar, Inspector-General of Police, UT, was the chief guest. Mr Baljit Singh Sethi, secretary-general, National Rifle Association of India, was also present. Judo championship:
Sanjay Negi of Panjab University clinched the gold medal in the men section in the below 60-kg weight category on the third day of the All-India Inter-University Judo Championship played at the gymnasium hall of Panjab University here today. In the 90-kg section, Mandeep Singh of GND University, Amritsar, bagged the gold medal, while in the below 48-kg women section, Priyanka of GNDU, Amritsar, got the gold medal. Kamlesh of Kurukshetra University got the silver medal, while Jagjit Kaur of Panjab University won the bronze medal.Cricket tourney:
A deadly spell of five wickets for 11 runs by Surinder Singh 'Baijee' and a half century by Manwinder Singh, who scored 68 runs, enabled LG XI beat the Khalsa Cricket Club, Jalandhar, by 161 runs in the opening tie of the inaugural Kesar Singh memorial Cricket Tournament played here today. In another tie, Sandeep Gulati with 133 runs in just 90 deliveries helped the High Court Cricket club beat the Panchkula Cricket Club by 100 runs.Draughts tournament:
Prem Singh of Punjab outplayed Sudershan Kumar of Chandigarh to bag the second Open Draughts Invitation Tournament played at Lake Club here last evening. Rajpal Singh, general secretary, Draughts Federation of India, inaugurated the meet, while Mr Varinder Virdi of Virdi Fabrics, Ludhiana, gave away the prizes to the winners.Volleyball championship:
Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 18, got two titles, one in the sub-junior and another in the junior section on the final day of the Chandigarh Sub-Junior and Junior Volleyball Championships which concluded here this evening at Shivalik Public School, Sector 41.In the junior girls final, GGSSS-18 defeated Sharda Sarvhitkari School, Sector 40, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24. In the sub-Junior girls final, GGSSS-18 overpowered Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 47, 25-18, 20-25, 25-19. In the sub-junior boys, Sports Complex, Sector 7, got the better of Sports Complex, Sector 46, 25-8, 25-16. In the junior boys section, Shivalik Public School defeated Sports Complex, Sector 7, 26-24, 26-28, 25-19.
