Workshop on female foeticide
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, December 22
A workshop on “Female Foeticide” was organised at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women as a part of “health education week” by the Ludhiana Citizens’ Health Council yesterday.

The participants discussed the causes of female foeticide in Punjab, its implications and impacts on the society, role of social and government agencies in curbing the evil, and status of women and their reproductive rights.

The participants agreed that poverty and ignorance were the main factors responsible for discrimination against the female sex. They felt that the religious organisations had to play a major role in educating masses to overcome the disparity in sex ratio. The NGOs had to play a major role in educating masses through plays, songs, etc.

Male dominance and preference for male child was another cause of female foeticide and only education could solve this problem, they opined.
