Defending champions, Allwyn-Hindustan F.C. and former league champions, Indian Air Force (New Delhi) struggled hard to beat their respective rivals in group-A and B preliminary matches of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Annual Open Clubs Senior Division Football
League Championship, being played at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (East) ground here today.

In group A, Allwyn-Hindustan Club prevailed over spirited Tarun Sangha by a solitary goal to earn three full points. Hindustan recorded their third straight win to secure 9 points from three matches while Tarun Sangha have yet to score a point from two matches.

Despite defeat, Tarun Sangha lads won the hearts of the spectators with their fine display of short-passes, to thwart their strong opponents from taking any advantage in their territorial area.

Tarun Sangha would have been up by two- three goals had their striker Dipen Thapa not wasted easy goal scoring

chances from close. Both teams levelled goalless at the end of the 1st half proceedings. Hindustan's M.K. Candid and

Nigerian recruit C. Auddy received caution cards from FIFA referee Krishan Avtar following infringements.

The all-important goal came in the 55th minute when Tarun Sangha's defender Raju Soren handled the ball inside the box. Match referee awarded a penalty-kick on which Hindustan's striker Sameer Jung made no mistake, to take his team one up.

Earlier, in a close-contested encounter, Indian Air Force (New Delhi) were lucky to manage a 1-0 win over former league champions, Moonlight Club. Both teams were goalless in the initial half proceedings.
