GURGAON Gurgaon, December 6 Mr Mathur said that the government intended to make the tax structure more simplified and less time consuming. “We are also committed to cut subsides and reduce expenses,” said the officer. He elaborated that the government had already scrapped a number of boards and corporations, which had become defunct and had not been doing any concrete work for a long time, to cut short the expenses. In the information technology (IT) sector, Haryana in general and Gurgaon in particular had achieved a distinguished place in the country. Now Gurgaon was ahead of Hyderabad in software exports, he claimed. Besides other IT-related activities in the district, there were more than 20 call centres catering to international customers, he said. He said that the district administration had decided to chalk out a plan to improve the transport facilities in the city. Different new facilities with better infrastructure were being introduced here. Local bus services were introduced in the city sometime back but it was not being fully utilised by the masses, lamented the CS. He said that a comprehensive study would be undertaken on the transport facilities needed in the city. The newly appointed president of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), Mr P. K. Jain, requested the Chief Secretary to form an expert committee comprising representatives of industrial associations and senior government functionaries to sort out the problems of industrialists in less time. Mr Jain further said that a single window agency should be formed where different types of formalities of different departments concerning the industries could be fulfilled and resolved. Welcoming the guests and other delegates, Mr Sunil Sabharwal, president of the GCCI, said the industry in the state had grown manifold. More industries could come if better facilities were provided. Ms Meenakshi Anand Chaudhary, senior IAS officer and in charge of the electricity department, appealed to the industrialists to extend help in the power sector reforms. If the industries would continue in paying the bills for the power consumed by them, the government would be in a position to provide better power facilities to them. |
