Ad hoc lecturers discuss harassment issue
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, December 6
An emergency meeting of the Government College Part-Time Lecturers Association, Punjab, was held here today in which the recent incident of harassment of Miss Anurag Gill was discussed.

Mr Gurjinder S. Chahal said that such incidents involving the harassing of female teaching staff were highly deplorable. Even after bringing the matter into the notice of the college authorities no action was taken because of the fact that the lecturer was an ad hoc appointee.

He alleged that the efforts were made to hush up the matter by all concerned and the college authorities did not act accordingly. It showed their indifferent attitude towards the ad hoc lecturers, he alleged.

He disclosed that the matter would be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister (Punjab) and the Education Minister.

Furthermore, he added, that such incidents were not new, as earlier also the higher authorities had always adopted a step-motherly and indifferent attitude towards part-time lecturers.

All part-time lecturers present at the meeting expressed their support to Miss Anurag Gill.

Meanwhile, the president of the Punjab Ex Servicemen League, Lieut Col (rtd) CS Dhillon, has expressed concern over the incident. He said the culprits should be brought to book to avoid such incidents in future.
