Sandeep slams century for Vaisya School

New Delhi, December 2
A crackling knock of 139, studded with 15 boundaries and three huge sixes by Sandeep Kumar and deadly bowling of 3 for 8 by Sumit Goyal helped Vaisya Public School defeat St. Giri School, Rohini by 41 runs in a league match of the first St. Giri Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Paschim Vihar Sports Complex ground.

Sandeep was awarded the man of the match prize by physical education teacher Renuka Malik.

Scores: Vaisya Public School: 276 for 9 in 35 overs (Sandeep Kumar 139 n.o, Lokesh Sehrawat 22, Himanshu Deswal 3 for 42, Dinesh Bindal 3 for 54).

St. Giri Public School, Rohini: 233 all out in 34.5 overs (Vikas Dalal 65, Ajay Chandra 45, Sumit Goyal 3 for 8, Deepak Garg 3 for 26).

Rajdhani Sports enter final

Rajdhani Sports beat Yamuna Nagar Club by 61 runs and entered the final of the first W R Malhotra Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Karnail Singh Stadium.

Scores: Rajdhani Sports: 188 for 8 in 35 overs (Sonu Vaid 76, 8x4, 2x6; Ashish Sharma 74, Bilal Ahmad 4 for 18, Swarn Singh 2 for 20).

Yamuna Nagar: 127 all out in 25 overs (Gurpal Singh 35, Raju Sharma 35, Ravi Yadav 3 for 15, T Tyagi 2 for 21, Joginder Singh 3 for 25).

Young Friends collect full points

Young Friends beat Ajmal Khan by five wickets to collect full points in an A-I Division match of the DDCA League at the Shanti Sports Complex, Vasant Kunj.

Scores: Ajmal Khan: 191 all out in 38.3 overs (Sunny Kumar 68 n.o, Rakshit Pant 3 for 28, Tarun Dutta 2 for 40).

Young Friends: 193 for 5 in 39.2 overs (Himanshu Khullar 53 n.o, Ishan Bakshi 35, Abhishek Kumar 30, Parvesh Kumar 2 for 40).

Lal Bahadur Shastri Club defeated Bank of India by 164 runs in a B Division match at the Kotla II ground.

Scores: Lal Bahadur Shastri Club: 279 for 5 in 40 overs (Sonu Singh 66, Sunny Ghai 51, Rakesh Khari 51, Ramesh Sharma 3 for 83).

Bank of India: 115 all out in 27 overs (Ramesh Sharma 26, Sonu Singh 3 for 22, Raj Malkia 3 for 26).

Ashoka Club beat Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) by 34 runs in a B Division match at the Yamuna Sports Complex II ground.

Scores: Ashoka Club: 185 for 6 in 40 overs (Jaspreet Singh 57 n.o, Jitender Sharma 28, Rakesh Jaitley 3 for 23).

LIC: 151 all out in 36.5 overs (Rajesh Azad 48, Raghuvir Singh 46, Jaspreet Singh 3 for 29, Ravinder Bhola 2 for 26).

Indian Airlines to meet Air India in final

New Delhi, December 2
Indian Airlines will take on Air India in the final of the 13th Lal Bahadur Shastri Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on Tuesday at 2 p.m. In the semi-finals on Monday, Air India downed Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) 5-4 via tie-breaker while Indian Airlines toyed with Bangladesh XI 6-0.

In a closely-fought match, Air India, despite their best efforts, could not find the mark in the first half, but eight minutes into the second half, they drew first blood through inside-right Davinder Kumar, who scored a field goal. CISF, who had given a consistent performance in the tournament, pulled off the equaliser in the 52nd minute through left-out G V Xaxa.

The teams were locked 1-1 at the end of the regulation time. The tie-breaker rule was applied when extra time also proved fruitless.

In the tie-breaker shoot-out, international Vikram Pillay, Roshan Tete, Deepak Kumar and Sandeep Michael scored for Air India while only Cyril Ekka, Bharat Kumar and Gurtej Singh could find the mark for CISF.

Air India goalkeeper Mahan Gowda, who baulked the penalty hits of G V Xaxa and Parambir, was adjudged the man of the match.

Indian Airlines, marshalled brilliantly by Dhanraj Pillay, toyed with Bangladesh XI by a tennis score. Arjun Halappa converted a penalty corner to open the account.

Dilip Tirkey and Dhanraj Pillay completed the half time scoring.

In the second half, Dilip Tirkey, Sameer Dad and Prabodh Tirkey added three more goals to complete the tally. Dilip Tirkey was adjudged the man of the match.

The final will be telecast live from 2 p.m on Tuesday.

ITBP honours sportspersons

New Delhi, December 2
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) director-general S C Chaube organised a felicitation function to honour sportspersons of the force who brought laurels from national and international competitions. Deserving sportspersons were given cash awards and promotion under the ten per cent unqualified quota in sports category.

HC/GD Bhag Singh, who bagged a silver and one bronze medal in the Delhi State Shooting Championship 2002 and one gold medal in the 12th All-India G V Mavlankar Shooting Championship, has been promoted to the rank of SI/GD.

Ct/GD Viraj Singh, who bagged three golds in the Delhi State Shooting and one gold in the G V Mavlankar Shooting has been promoted to the rank of HC/GD.

Umesh Chandra, another shooter who has excelled in various meets, was given a cash award of Rs 5000. HC/GD Jitender Alumbayn, who won a gold medal in judo in the All-India Police Games, has been promoted to the rank of SI/GD. Shooter Prashant Ram was given a cash award of Rs 6000. Archers Parmanand, M Josia Harungkhwal and Delek Anuchuk were given cash awards of Rs 12000, Rs 18000 and Rs 6000 respectively. Gymnast Y Ibomcha Singh was given a cash award of Rs 10,000.

Cash awards were also given to coaches Nathi Singh, Chhawang Namgayal and Abhay Singh (judo), Samir Dev and Inobi Singh (gymnastics), Tashi Namgayal (archery) and Brahmanand (shooting).

Assam school drub St. Sain

Bamungoan High School, Bongaigaon (Assam) drubbed St. Sain Convent High School, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) 5-0 in the Subroto Cup Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Monday. Durga Boro, Manikant Bramha, Fwjwbswrang Wary and Ramwndi Navzaring (2) were the goal-scorers.

Sports Authority of India (SAI) School, Kolkatta defeated Central Public Memorial School, Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) 5-1. Aujit Adhikari, Pankaj Samadhar, Suman Chandra Dey and Amit Nag (two) were the goal-getters.

Waseem Yousuf pulled off the consolation goal for the Kashmir school.

Birendra Sainik Mahavidyalaya (Lalitpur), Nepal and Government High School, Dimapur (Nagaland) were locked in a 2-2 draw. Pardeep Kanwar and Narayan Khatke scored for the Nepal team while Asana and Kuobu were the scorers for Dimapur.

Bangladesh Kira Shikhka Protisthan (Dhaka), and Government School, Mus, Carnicobar were locked in a goalless draw. The match was marred by rough play and two Dhaka boys, Rahul Amin and Hewk, were shown the red card.

The Carnicobar team have entered the quarter-final. The tournament has now entered the quarter-final stage.

Tuesday’s fixtures: Apex Public School, Sant Nagar (Delhi) vs UP Sports College, Lucknow (1.45 p m); Koddlya Prasanna Banga School, 24 Parganas, West Bengal vs St.John Bosco School, Sohra (Mehgalaya) (3.15 p m)—Ambedkar Stadium.

DAV School record big victory

DAV School, Shalimarbagh defeated Saviour Convent School, Paschim Vihar by eight wickets in the second Ganga School Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Ganga School ground. The match was inconsequential as both the teams had already qualified for the semi-finals.

Scores: Saviour Convent: 113 all out in 29.3 overs (Raman Gujral 31, Salaj Sondhi 25 n.o, Hunny Garg 3 for 16, Abhishek Rohila 2 for 21, Abhishek Sakuja 2 for 16). DAV School: 114 for 2 in 21.2 overs (Love Sehrawat 50 n.o, Bhanu Sharma 36).

Ganga School staff win

Ganga School Staff XI defeated Sports Journalists XI by 12 runs in a friendly match. The match was inaugurated jointly by school principal Mrs H Sraw and Mr P K Chandla. Scores: Ganga Staff XI: 171 for 6 in 20 overs (D S Jaggi 40, Shashank 30, Inderjeet 20, Rajesh 20, Vivek 2 for 22, Suresh 1 for 20).

Hewlett Packard beat Hudco by 121 runs in the sixth D G Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Venkateswara College ground.

Scores: Hewlett Packard: 171 for 5 in 25 overs (Sandeep Tockoo 47 n.o, 3x4; Vivek Dwivedi 33, 2x4; Rakesh Choudhry 24, 2x4; Suresh Negi 2 for 39).

Hudco: 50 all out in 13.3 overs (Delbagh Singh 20, 2x4; Vivek Dwivedi 3 for 15, Sanjeevy 2 for 10, Sumit Marwah 2 for 9).

Vivek Dwivedi was adjudged the man of the match.

Aviva edge past Churchill India

Aviva Life Insurance beat Churchill India by 12 runs in a league match of the Eventus Cup Cricket Tournament at the Airport Authority ground.

Scores: Aviva Life Insurance: 165 for 7 in 25 overs (Raghav Khanna 49 n.o, Alok Rishi 41, Puneet Dayal 40, Anand Agarwal 2 for 18).

Churchill India: 153 for 8 wickets in 25 overs (Nitin Suri 48, Raghav Wahi 35, Ajay Bhandari 2 for 18, Dev Prasad

St. Giri Under-13 Cricket

The inaugural St. Giri School Under-13 Cricket Tournament will begin on December 5 at Paschim Vihar Sports Complex ground. Eight teams are participating in the tournament.

Simla Youngs hold Mughals

Simla Youngs held Mughals to a goalless draw in the opening Group A League match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Open Clubs Senior Division Football League Championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium east ground on Monday.

In an evenly-contested match, Simla Youngs impressed everyone with their skilful and well-knit play, but all their good work came to a nought when forwards Budh Raj and Anil Rawat muffed easy goal-scoring chances.

The tournament was inaugurated by Lt. Col. (retd) V K Sood. Tuesday's fixture: Indian Nationals vs Goans (3 p.m)--Nehru Stadium east ground.
