GIMRC lift cricket trophy

The Government Institute of Mentally Retarded Children, (GIMRC) Sector 32, Chandigarh, outscored Aanchal, Delhi, by six wickets to lift the trophy in the Third North Zone cricket meet for mentally retarded children being played here today at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium. Gurpreet of GIMRC was adjudged man-of- -the-match for his outstanding performance. Earlier in the semi-finals, Aanchal beat Ambuja, while in the second semifinal, GIMRC defeated Asha AWWA by nine wickets. Tomorrow on the World Disability Day, an athletics meet will be held at Sports Complex, Sector 46. Snooker
meetNaveen got the better of Ajay Saini in senior snooker section, 59-53, 37-36, 59-29, 85-49, in the VIIth Haryana state senior, junior billiards and snooker championship played here today at Panchkula. In other matches of senior section, Jasvinder beat Ankit Ahuja 56-35, 57-34, 25-52, 45-13 while Ajay Singla defeated Randhir Minhas, 58-15, 66-59, 43-30. In the junior snooker section, Rajeev Sharma beat Sagar 3-1 with scores being 33-47, 62-19, 60-42, 53-31. UT volleyball teamBalwinder Singh of Shivalik Public School, Sector 41 has been named as captain of the UT school volleyball team (under-19) section, which will take part in the National Games to be held at Rewa (MP) from December 5 to 10. Out of 12 boys selected by the UT Education Department, seven are from the Shivalik Volleyball Academy. Giving this information, Mr DS Bedi, Director Principal of the school, said, earlier, the UT team probables were given free lodging and boarding facilities by the school. Three boys are from SD School, Sector 32, and two from DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8. The team is: Balwinder Singh (captain), Raju Chauhan, Vinod Negi, Gurinder Singh, Ravinder, Surender Kumar, Surjit Singh (all SPS-41), Lalit Kumar, Sandeep and Jasbir Singh (all SDP-32), Ajay and Naresh (DAVSSS-8). Kirti, Rudra win laurelsKirti, a class VI student in girls section, while Rudra Mukherjee, a class VII student of Manav Mangal School, Sector 11, Panchkula, brought laurels to their school when both of them won gold medal in their respective sections in the 27th National Yoga Championship, concluded recently at Patiala. Kirti won gold in 8-11 years category while Rudra in 11-14 years section. Both will now represent India in the international yoga competition to be held at Portugal next year. Out of six gold medals won by Haryana in the above meet, two have won by Manav Mangal students. Ms Bharti, another class IX student of the school, secured a bronze medal in the 11-14 years section.
