Hospital awaits CM for inauguration
Shivani Bhakoo

Ludhiana, November 29
Even as the new Civil Hospital remains to be formally inaugurated due to non-availability of the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, for the purpose, Acharya Shiv Muni, a religious leader of the Jains, and his followers visited the new block of the hospital and inspected the rooms, besides providing the patients moral and financial help. The hospital has been named Lord Mahavira Hospital and aims at providing various medical facilities at one place.

Financed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and implemented through the Punjab Health Systems Corporation, it was the sixth time that the inauguration ceremony was postponed due to non-availability of the Chief Minister who was expected to visit the hospital after presiding over the convocation in the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Police Academy at Phillaur. Earlier too, the Rs 2-crore project missed its inauguration at least six times in January, April, July, August and now in November.

The Health Department has been seeking the assistance of the district administration for seeking time from the Chief Minister to formally inaugurate the hospital, even though the hospital has otherwise been functioning normally for the past some time.

Dr Y.C. Markan, SMO, Civil Hospital, has confirmed in the past that the new hospital building was complete and the delay in the formal inauguration was primarily due to non-availability of the CM. The department is hopeful that it would be able to fix a new date in consultation of the Chief Minister’s office.
