Tribune News Service

Rohtak, November 25
The Haryana College Teachers’ Union has condemned the state government for ‘flouting’ the norms of the University Grants Commission. In a statement here today, zonal president of the union alleged that the Education Ministry in Haryana had been selectively picking up the provisions which suited the officials and avoided the basics of the recommendations, thereby making a mockery of the directions of the UGC.

He said Mr Prem Prashant, the former Education Secretary, Haryana Government, was cautioned by the then Secretary, UGC, in February 2000 that it was mandatory for the state government to implement the above said UGC notification in toto.

It was directed through the notification that the designation of Reader should be given to the selection grade lecturers who hold Ph.D. degree in colleges.

However, the zonal president alleged that the state government had not taken any step in this regard.

On the other hand, the teachers alleged that the government imposed the coercive part of the recommendations of the notification including at least 180 teaching days in a year, 30-hour stay in the college during a week, stoppage of tuition, orientation and refresher courses with in a stipulated time framework without providing the requisite infrastructure.
