Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, November 20
The district Health Department has claimed that health services in the district have improved in the past three months.

Addressing a press conference here today, Dr S.N. Tiwari, Civil Surgeon, said the department’s officials, staff and para-medics had started reporting to their duties on time and indoor and outdoor admissions in various government hospitals had increased.

“We are making efforts to curb female foeticide. Besides this, our other programmes, including TB control programme and blindness and leprosy control programmes, are also gaining popularity in the district. For the strict implementation of the PNDT Act, inspections have been conducted by our officials. The department’s teams, comprising drug inspectors and other medical officers, have also conducted raids under the Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940. A list of the guilty has been sent to the State Drugs Controller, Punjab”, said Dr Tiwari.

He said that a family planning programme, conducted by the department, had been successful. A special family welfare camp would be organised at Mullanpur Dakha on November 22 in which tubectomy and vasectomy operations would be performed. Those operated upon would also be rewarded, he said.

Dr Tiwari said similar camps would be organised in December with the help of NGOs.
