Panel discussion in hospital
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, November 2
Deepak Hospital organised a panel discussion on ‘Laparoscopic Biliary Injury’ here yesterday. It was attended by several city surgeons and physicians. The moderator of the session was Dr Arindam Ghosh.

The panelists discussed the problem of bile-duct (main channel from the liver) injury after key-hole gall-bladder operation being three times more than in the conventional open operation. The experts said, it was a serious complication with financial, medical and medico-legal connotations. Panelists were asked about the initial management (call for help) and subsequent evaluation through ultrasound, nuclear scan and endoscopy etc. Treatment options like surgery and endoscopic management were also discussed.

The panelists said, with proper and mutidisciplinary care by gastroenterologists, the GI surgeons and radiologists, the problem could be managed successfully. If an expert doctor is not available somewhere, the patient should be sent to some referral center.
