Jain Bharati Vidyalaya enter semis

New Delhi, November 1
Jain Bharati Mrigavati Vidyalaya beat Little Flower School, Shahdara 25-6, 25-4 to enter the semi-final of the CBSE Cluster X Under-16 Volleyball.

Tournament, being organised by the Jain Bharati Mrigavati Vidyalaya. Vipin Mann and Arjun Mann were the play-makers for the winners.

Jain Bharati Mrigavati Vidyalaya also entered the quarter-final in the girls section. Damini Mann and Deepika Khatri excelled for the winners. Bal Bharti Public School, Laxmi Nagar, DAV Pushpanjali, Darbari Lal DAV and Salwan Public School were the other teams who qualified for the quarter-finals.

Principal of Jain Bharati V B Sood commended the players for putting up an excellent show. Fifty one boys and girls schools from all over Delhi are participating in the tournament.

Eventus Cup match ends in tie Hughes Software Systems and Avival Life Insurance played a tied match in the second Eventus Cup Cricket Tournament played at the Palam ground.

An eighth-wicket 31-run partnership, off 30 balls, between Raghav and Ajay helped Aviva to tie the match. The pick of the bowler was Uppen Babu, who conceded just three runs in his five-over spell to take two wickets and brought HSS back into the match.

Scores: Hughes Software Systems: 97 all out in 19 overs (Pankaj Mehta 20 off 17 balls, Himanshu Naval 18 off 18 balls, Bhaskar Ganguly 2 for 7, Ajay Kumar 2 for 11, Puneet Dayal 2 for 21, Dev Prasad 2 for 22).

Aviva Life Insurance: 97 for 7 in 25 overs (Raghav Khanna 36 no., off 34 balls, Sunil Aswal 22 off 48 balls, Abhishek Mukerjee 3 for 21, Upen Babu 2 for 3).

Carmel Delhi annex basketball title

Carmel Delhi beat Carmel Lucknow 23-12 in the Mother Veronica Inter-Carmel Basketball Tournament at the Carmel School court in Chanakyapuri.

Scores: Delhi: 23 (Natalee D’Souza 14, Natisha Bhatia 7). Lucknow: 12 (Cheena 6). Natisha Bhatia of Carmel Convent School, Delhi was adjudged the best player.

Mrs Sangeeta Jaitley, wife of former Union Minister Arun Jaitley, gave away the prizes.

Nirmalini A.C, principal of Carmel School, said eight branches of Carmel Convent School from all over the country, took part in the championship. “We are encouraged by the response”, said Nirmalini.

GAIL beat Delphi

Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) beat Delphi India by three wickets in the sixth D G Phadkar Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Teri Oval.

Scores: Delphi India: 145 for 6 in 25 overs (Abraham Joseph 43 no., 2x4; Hitendra 26, 1x4, 2x6; Sanjay Rathi 24, 3x4; Suresh 2 for 20).

GAIL: 146 for 7 in 22.1 overs (Akash Bhawan 71 no., 9x4; Satish 26, 2x4). Akash was adjudged the man of the match.

Vijay Singh to play in Bilt Skins Golf

Golfing legend Vijay Singh of Fiji will take part in the Bilt Skins Golf Bonanza to be organised on November 9 and 10 at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon.

The tournament will have a total prize money of $ 45,000, which will be the richest ever single pay day in Indian golfing history. Vijay Singh, fourth in the all time money winners’ list on the United States Professional Golf Association Tour, will be the star attraction of the golf fiesta, featuring golf pros like Jyoti Randhawa, Harmeet Kahlon and cricketer Kapil Dev.

Inborn Cricketers win

Inborn Cricketers beat CCF Academy (Hyderabad) by one wicket in the Don Bosco Invitation Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Don Bosco School ground at Hyderabad. Dinesh Khatri, who starred in Inborn’s victory, was adjudged the man of the match. The award was presented to him by Test star VVS Laxman’s coach Ashok Singh.

Scores: CCF Academy: 181 all out in 29.4 overs (Akbar 75, Charanjeet Singh 2 for 21, Vivek Mishra 2 for 27, Sun Preet Singh 2 for 32). Inborn Cricketers: 184 for 9 in 29.4 overs (Dinesh Khatri 48 n o, Charanjeet Singh 27, Upmanyu Kumar 26, Pradeep 3 for 38, Raja 3 for 42).
