Tribune News Service

Jammu, October 26
A welfare scheme was launched in Udhampur district today for the ex-servicemen and the widows of ex-servicemen.

The project was inaugurated by Major-Gen A.S. Jamwal, General Officer Commanding, at a medical camp held at the Military Hospital in Chennai.

General Jamwal explained that the purpose of the project was to enable the widows and the ex-servicemen to go through regular medical check-ups in order to treat health problems.

He said a large number of ex-servicemen had not enough means to go in for elaborate medical check-ups. Either they had no resources to bear the cost or the facilities were not available in their areas.

He said due to this, minor health problems aggravated into major ones. To avoid it, medical facilities would be made available at all military establishments including canteens.

In addition to this, the Army authorities have decided to introduce mobile medical camps.
