Project to help orthopaedicians

The Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SICOT), the world body of orthopaedic surgeon, representing about 150 countries has started a project to help the orthopaedic surgeons from all over the world, especially from the developing countries, to solve complex clinical problems.

With the result, any orthopaedic surgeon facing a difficult case will be able to take help from international experts in that particular subject and will be able to manage the patient more effectively and appropriately. SICOT is establishing a telediagnostic centre each in most of the countries as part of this project.

In India, this centre is being established at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Super Specialty Trauma Centre, Gurdev Hospital.

Bathinda college wins volleyball trophy

Ahmedgarh, October 12
Government Barjindra College Bathinda, won Punjabi University Volleyball Championship which concluded at the local Shanti Tara College today, one day later than the scheduled closing day.

Mr Dal Singh, Chief Volleyball Coach, Punjabi University, Patiala, said the three-day championship was inaugurated by Mr Arvind Malhotra, general secretary, Shanti Tara Educational and Medical Society. As many as 23 teams from various colleges affiliated the university participated in the championship, which according to chief coach is a record number. He claimed with limited number of sports experts and referees the organisers had to extend the schedule by a day.

Mr Dal Singh told Ludhiana Tribune that the Government Barjindra College won the championship by defeating National College Bhikhi, which was declared runners up. Khalsa College, Patiala, and the host Shanti Tara College were adjudged second and third runners up respectively.

Various sessions of the championship were presided over by Mr Jagpal Khangura, a philanthropist, Mr Surjit Singh, former captain of the Indian volleyball team, Principal Gurdev Singh and Principal Kartar Singh. Mr Khangura donated five computers to the host college.

Mr Amarjit Singh Prag and the Director of the college gave away the trophy the winning team.

Under-14 basketball

The prize distribution function of the 48th Punjab School Basketball Under-14 competition concluded here on Saturday. The function was organised in Arya Senior Secondary School. Mr Vinod Aggarwal, Principal, welcomed the guests. Mr Raghubinder Chatthaly (Ghuggi) was the chief guest. Principal Roshanlal Sood secretary of the state tournament committee, lauded Mr Bahadar Singh, Principal of GPS, Mr Aggarwal, staff and participants for their cooperation to make the sports meet a success.

In the final match (boys) played on the GPS ground, Bathinda defeated Muktsar 30-29. Mansa got third position by defeating Gurdaspur 47-29.

In the final match (girls) played on the Arya School ground, Gurdaspur got first position by beating Amritsar 45-17. Sangrur and Bathinda remained at third and fourth position, respectively. The chief guest gave away prizes to the winners.
