NCC cadets, who will be visiting Sri Lanka under the Youth Exchange Programme, calling on Lt Gen B. K. Bopanna, AVSM, VSM, Director-General, NCC in the Capital on Friday.

New Delhi, October 11
Two NCC cadets will visit Sri Lanka later this week on an exchange programme.

The cadets will participate in a camp to be conducted between October 14 and October 22 for cadets from SAARC countries.

The two cadets are Gaurav Yewalkar from NCC Madhya Pradesh directorate and Divya G. Nair from NCC Kerala directorate.

Shastri Club lift Rameshwar Trophy

Lal Bahadur Shastri Club defeated S P Academy by 26 runs to annex the second Shaheed Smriti Under-19 Cricket Tournament for the Rameshwar Trophy, organised by the North Delhi Cricketers' Association, at the Teri Oval ground, Gurgaon.

Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) sports secretary Sunil Dev distributed the prizes. Others who witnessed the final match were organising secretary Himmat Saini, D S Bawa, P S Chauhan, Praveen Jain, Radhey Shyam Sharma, Davinder Chaudhary, Rajinder Saini, Athar Ali, Sandeep Arora and Vijay Bahadur Mishra.

Special prizes were given to the following players: Best batsman: Robin Bisht (Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan); Best Bowler: Vinay Sharma (S P Academy); Man of the Tournament: Maninder Singh (Shastri Club); Man of the Match: Gaurav Chhabra (Shastri); consolation prize: Tarun Chaudhary (Shastri).

Scores: Lal Bahadur Shastri Club: 127 all out in 33.2 overs (Gaurav Chhabra 50, 3x4, 2x6; Honey Garg 29, 3x4, 44b; Ajay Kumar 4 for 16, Manas Malhotra 2 for 15, Naveen Bhardwaj 1 for 22, Vinay Sharma 1 for 34, Manish 1 for 27).

Gaurav and Honey put on 62 runs for the sixth wicket after Shastri lost five wickets for 46 runs.

S P Academy: 101 all out in 32.1 overs (Naveen Bharadwaj 37, 3x4, 70b; Ashutosh 15, Manish 12, Parvesh Chikara 2 for 14, Maninder Singh 2 for 25, Vinay Beniwal 2 for 15, Ashutosh Sharma 2 for 19, Rajeev Mahajan 1 for 19).

Utkarsh XI enter final

A dashing knock of 57 runs by Rakesh Singh and deadly bowling by Vikas Vij (3 for 20) enabled Utkarsh XI beat Rajdhani Sports by 13 runs and entered the final of the 12th Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Hamdard ground.

Scores: Utkarsh XI: 197 for 7 in 35 overs (Rakesh Singh 57, Sanjay Verma 38, Mobin Ahmad 30, Tapeshwar Tyagi 2 for 22).

Rajdhani Sports: 184 all out in 35 overs (Manish Chawla 63, Joginder Singh 51, Jai Vardhan 3 for 28, Vikas Vij 3 for 20, Robin Chaudhary 3 for 29).

Indian Airlines, ONGC in Mohan Cricket final

Indian Airlines defeated Sonnet Club by 22 runs to set up the title clash against Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) in the Padamshri N N Mohan Memorial All-India Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakins ground, Ghaziabad on October 14. In the second semi-final today, the debonair batting performances of the Airlines batsmen ensured their victory against Sonnet.

Indian Airlines skipper Nikhil Chopra won the toss and opted to bat. The 64-run opening-wicket partnership off 10.5 overs between Ravneet Ricky and Manish Sharma and the 81-run second wicket partnership between Ricky and

Reetender Sodhi were the high points of Airlines' victory.

Reetender Singh Sodhi, who cracked 87 runs off 80 balls with four boundaries and four sixes, was adjudged the man of the match.

Eventus Cup Cricket at Palam

The second Eventus Cup Cricket Tournament for Corporates will be held at the Palam ground from October 10. The tournament will be dedicated to the Cricket World Cup for the Blind, to be held in India from December. Mr George Abraham, chairman of the Association for Cricket for the Blind in India, will inaugurate the tournament.

Fritolay will meet JRA in the opening match. Goal feast in Nehru Girls Hockey

In high-scoring matches, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Dharamj Aig Arh (Chhattisgarh) beat Janata High School, Mapusa (Goa) 11-0, NCC Bangalore beat Kshatriya Girls Higher Secondary School, Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu) 18-0 and Sanjay Gandhi Hindi School, Gandhinagar (Gujarat) beat Government Girls High School (Patna) 14-0 in the ninth Nehru Girls Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium today.

Five goals, including a hattrick by Vimla Chermaco, was the highlight of the Chhattisgarh teams' victory in the first match. Dulari Kandulana, Preetiwanti Horo, Suman Mundu, Anjlina Kerketta and Deepmala Tigga (2) were the other scorers.

In the second match, the Bangalore girls struck their goals through Maya A, Raina SG (5), Krithika K K (4), Nithila NC (6), Rachana S J and Soumya. OSR

Shastri Club drub Collegians

Shastri Club scored a fluent 3-0 victory against Collegians in the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Open Clubs Football League Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium today. All the goals came in the first half. Surinder Singh opened the account in the eighth minute and Bhupender Thakur enhanced the lead four minutes later. Kaga Dudma scored the third goal in the 26th minute.

At the Jawaharlal Nehru West ground, Indian Air Force (Palam) trounced Youngsters 5-0. Vergees (2), Sunil Kumar Bhatt, Verma and Pillani were the goal-scorers. Nav Jyoti Nepal beat Ahbab Club 2-0. Royal Rangers and Delhi Cantt played a goalless draw.

CBSE skating championship

The four-day `Second National Speed Skating Championship' of the CBSE-affiliated schools started at DAV Public School, Sector 14 here last evening. The Cooperatives Minister of Haryana, Mr K. S. Bhadana, inaugurated the event.

According to organisers, about 1,100 students from over 200 schools across the country from 28 states are taking part in the tournament. International Skater Khusboo Saini administered the pledge to participants.

NDMC to give names to four link roads

Naming of four unnamed link roads, strengthening of roads, provision of road signals, review of reservation quota for SCs and STs in case of allotment of shop/stalls and installation of the statue of Master Tara Singh at Pt. Pant Marg are some of the major decisions taken in the monthly meeting of the New Delhi Municipal Council. A new member, Mr Sewa Ram, Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), Delhi Police, was also administered oath of faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India.

The other two members nominated by the Ministry of Home Affairs are Mr K T Gurumukhi, Chief Planner, Town and Country Planning Organisation, Ministry of Urban Development and Mr Satish Chandra, Secretary, (Finance), Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Mr Ram Bhaj, MLA and Vice-Chairperson, NDMC, said that the civic body had reviewed the reservation quota in allotment of stalls/shops/kiosks in respect of SCs and STs and other categories as per National Commission for SC and ST and policy of Government of India.

The reservation has been enhanced as per guidelines of Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment, Government of India i.e. 22.5 per cent for SC and ST and 3 per cent for physically handicapped.

Mr Ram Bhaj further said it has been decided to rename four unnamed link roads i.e. road from Aurobindo Marg leading to Brig. Hoshiar Singh Marg, Laxmibai Bai Nagar as Rani Laxmibai Marg, Circular Road adjacent to

Khalsa School and Gurdwara Sarojini Nagar as Guru Govind Singh Marg, road connecting Ring Road from Raj Nagar to

Brig. Hoshiar Singh Road as Shree Vinayak Mandir Marg and road from Arya Samaj Mandir between XY Block on Palika

Vihar, Sarojini Nagar, as Veer Hakikat Rai Marg. It has also been decided to install the statue of Master Tara Singh at `P’ point of Pt. Pant Marg. 100 illegal structures razed in Ganaur

Sonepat, October 11
More than 100 unauthorised structures were demolished and encroachments removed yesterday by the officials of the demolition squad during the anti-encroachment campaign launched by the administration at Ganaur, a sub-divisional town in this district.

According to a report, the campaign was started at dawn, which continued till dusk with full vigour. Several JCB machines were pressed into services for the demolition of unauthorised structures and removal of encroachments on the public and municipal land. All the sun-sheds built by the shopkeepers on the railway road were also removed.

The shopkeepers protested against the demolition being carried out by the administration. However, the police were able to control the situation. The shopkeepers alleged that the administration have not demolished the shops of the Ganaur Municipal Committee which were built illegally in front of the police station.

The situation became tense when the officials tried to demolish a structure of the Aggarwal Charitable Hospital on the railway road. A large number of people assembled to oppose the demolition.

Power meters to be replaced

Faridabad, October 11
The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has decided to replace all power meters in the old Faridabad division, with a view to check line losses and power theft.

Claiming that three feeders in the old Faridabad area had been selected on the basis of line losses, a spokesman of the DHBVN said here today that all the meters would be replaced shortly.

He said the drive would cover Palla, Tilpat and Ashoka enclave besides old Faridabad colonies, where new electronic meters would replace the electromechanical ones. OC
