Jamalpur school wins song competition

Ludhiana, October 7
The local Bharat Vikas Parishad (Kitchlu Branch), organised a branch-level national group song competition in the Dr Hedgewar auditorium of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir yesterday. Prof D.R.C. Bakhetia, president of the branch, said nine junior teams (class VI to X) and four senior teams class XI-XII) from nine schools affiliated with the CBSE participated in the competition. The main theme of the programme was to spread the message of patriotism, national unity and national integration among people.

The first prize in junior section was won by Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, while U.S.P.C. Jain Public School, Jamalpur, remained at first position in the senior section.

Addressing the gathering Prof S.R. Verma, former Dean, College of Agricultural Engineering, PAU, congratulated the winners and advised the students to work hard and follow the principle of “nation before self.” He said the parishad was doing a commendable job. There was a need for diverting such programmes towards the overall development of the rural masses, particularly those in remote villages.

Mr Chander Mohan Sharma, General Secretary, Punjab BVP, said the parishad was a non-political and non-government organisation dedicated to the service of our society. There were over 1,200 branches of the parishad across India.

The function ended with a vote of thanks by Dr V.K. Kakkar, project director of the programme.

GNIMT receives ISO 9001:2000

Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Ludhiana, has been conferred with ISO 9001:2000 certificate for its high quality standardisation in providing technical education to the students. GNIMT established in 1997 and approved by the AICTE, MBA MCA, BCA and the BBA courses under the flagship of Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. Dr A.S. Bansal, Director of this institute, received the certificate from Mr Ajay Bajpai, general manager, International Certification Services, at a function held at a local hotel here.

It was told that the institute had made history by securing university positions in various exams since its inception in 1997. Apart from it, GNIMT are also university champions in volleyball and runners-up in athletics.

Mr S.S. Kohli of Quality Visions, who assisted the institute in developing a system for continuos improvement, emphasised that the institute possessed a high quality infrastructure, especially well-trained, qualified and experienced faculty, which ensured them to ensure ISO 9001:2000 certificate.

Dr A.S. Bansal, Director, also thanked, Mr Kohli for his contribution in developing and qualitative work culture at GNIMT. Dr Bansal said that it was not the destination GNIMT had achieved, rather it was a new beginning to meet the challenges in providing more/better technical education to the students. He promised the parents and the students to provide all kinds of assistance to them for their bright successful career.

NSS camp organised

A 10-day camp has been organised by NSS volunteers of Master Tara Singh Memorial College.

A rally against social evils was launched by volunteers in different villages surrounding Kasabad. Students carried placards bearing slogans on “women education”, “female foeticide”, “cleanliness” and “plantation”.

Mr Gurcharan Singh Ghalib, MP, addressed the rally. Principal Madanjit Kaur Sahota, Mr C.L. Narang, Coordinator, NSS, and sarpanch, Mr Inderjit Singh Mann of Kasabad village also participated. Mr Galib planted saplings near Harijan Dharamshala in Kasabad village. He also gave Rs 2 lakh for the construction of rooms in Government High School in the village and Rs 2 lakh to Master Tara Singh College for construction work.
