‘Positive attitude must for healthy body’
Our Correspondent

Rewari, September 30
At least 250 doctors from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kolkata, Mumbai and various other parts of the country participated in an all-India seminar on mind, body, medicine and meditation, which concluded at the Om Shanti Retreat Centre at Bhora Kalan, 30 km from here, yesterday.

This three-day seminar was organised under the auspices of the medical wing of the Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation of the Projapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Mount Abu (Rajasthan).

In his inaugural address, Dr Girish Patel, a noted psychiatrist of Mumbai, categorically stated that a sick mind made the body sick while a healthy mind dwelt in a healthy body of its own volition. Simultaneously, he asserted that a sick mind was essentially the root cause of more than 50 per cent of our diseases and maladies. He emphasised the need of nurturing a positive attitude to ensure the development of a healthy mind with a healthy body in life.

Echoing the views expressed by Dr Girish Patel, Dr S. P. Popli of Amritsar too laid great stress on the radical transformation of our negative approach to men, matters and other allied aspects in life because such mental transformation would not only lead to a healthy physical environment but would also usher in universal peace, prosperity and happiness.

Dr Prakash Halgi, former Director, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka, sagaciously exhorted medical practitioners to go in for regular exercise of Rajyoga meditation to strengthen their own spirituality which alone, he asserted, would enable them to handle their patients with robust confidence as well as competence.

In the same vein, Dr Sreeram, President of Mollige Nursing Home, Bangalore, said that there was no gainsaying the fact that a healthy mind always lent efficacy as well as excellence to a person in responding to situations of disease and distress in life. Similarly, a spiritually conscious physician would always be observing greater precision and competency in the diagnosis as well as treatment of patients, he added.

Summing up the proceedings of the seminar, Mr B. K. Brij Mohan, Secretary of the foundation, said that both body and mind were important as the one could not function without the other’s assistance.

However, the mind was more important since the body was subservient to its directions. Therefore, the natural conclusion was that a healthy mind was a prerequisite for a healthy body, he concluded.
