kids get polio drops in Noida Noida, September 30 District Magistrate K Ram Mohan Rao had inaugurated the programme at Government Hospital in Sector 30 here by giving polio drops to eight kids at 8 am on Sunday. After this, the DM went to booths set up in Sectors 12-22, 9,8,5,6 and 55 and also inspected a number of other booths in the town. Over 39,088 kids in Noida, 14,933 in Bisarakh, 17,901 in Dankaur and 18,454 in Javer were given polio drops in the district. In Dadri 17,807 children were given polio drops. The Chief Medical Officer, Dr M. A. Haque, inspected booths in Bilaspur and Dankaur. He also gave polio drop to children in Nithari, Sirsa, Girdharpur and Kasna villages and in Ram Vihar Complex. The Additional DM, Dr R. C. Gaur, said apart from seven officials of WHO all 407 teams had given polio drops to children in 645 booths set in the district for the purpose. Rotary club and Noida Lok Manch had also put up 20 and 15 booths, respectively, for pulse polio. In Ram Vihar, Sector 30 residents opposed the pulse polio campaign this year again. The DM had then deputed the City Magistrate to Ram Vihar who ensured that people bought their wards for pulse polio drops at booths. |
Timarpur toy with New Friends in DSA League New Delhi, September 30 The teams were locked 1-1 at half time. Inside-left Partap shot in Timarpur’s goal in the 15th minute. New Friends scored the equaliser through Sachin in the 25th minute. Timarpur increased the lead in the 37th minute while Anit completed the tally in the 57th minute. Timarpur have secured three points from four matches while New Friends have notched up six points from three matches. Panchkuian edged past Paschim Heroes 1-0 in a match played at the Nehru Stadium West ground. Striker Sumesh Gushain scored the match-winner in the 25th minute. Panchkuian’s Rajesh Rawat and Paschim Heroes’ R S Bisht were booked with the yellow card for infringements. Panchkuian recorded their fourth successive victory to amass 12 points while Paschim Heroes have earned six points from four matches. Delhi Students drew with Union Club 1-1 to share points at the Ambedkar Stadium. Sarvan converted a penalty kick to put Delhi Students in the lead. The penalty was awarded by referee Kamal Rakshit when rival defender Dipak played it rough inside the penalty area, in the 12th minute. However, Students could not hold on to the lead as Union Club netted the equaliser, off a penalty kick. The spot kick was awarded to Union Club when Students’ defender Ramesh handled the ball inside the box. Tapan converted the penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Delhi Students have earned seven points from three matches while Union Club have just one point from four matches. St. Columba’s got walkover from Gulabi Bagh. Dahiya named Delhi Ranji captain New Delhi, September 30 The senior selection committee of the Delhi and District Cricket Association, which met under the chairmanship of Chetan Chauhan, also announced the names of 41 probables, who have been called for trials on October 4 at 2.30 pm at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground. The selection committee meeting was attended by selectors Sunil Khanna, Anil Jain, Surender Khanna, Venkat Sundaram and Sunil Dev (convenor). The winning team was represented by Dinesh Ahluwalia and MP Singh while the second placed team comprised Navin De Silva and S Rao. Jet Airways was represented by Akbar Hussain and JB Singh. In the Individual nett category, for the foreign participants, T Miyanao tallied 66 nett to win. Among the Indian participants in the same category, GS Heera stole the show with a score of 68 nett. Argentinean ambassador GE Biritos won the lowest “Individual” gross category among the foreign participants with a score of 82 gross. Among the ladies, Deepa Gulati won with a score of 150 nett to win while C Houton finished second at 157

Honda-Siel golf moves to DLF
New Delhi, September 30 The tournament, which occupies pride of place as the biggest prize money event since its inception in 1994, was played at the Army Golf Course, Dhaula Kuan till 1998, and then moved to the Delhi Golf Club for three years. This season, the Rs 25-lakh prize money event, to be played from 3 to 6 October finds a new home. The Pro-Am will be played on October 2. Mr Siddharth Shriram, President & CEO, Siel Limited, said the change of venue from the Delhi Golf Club to DLF “is consistent with our policy to take the event to various golf courses and provide a challenge worthy of the status of the championship to the players.” The winner of the Championship will take home a cheque of Rs 4,05,000, while the runner-up stands to gain Rs 2,80,000. Among those scheduled to participate are defending champion Arjun Singh, 1999 winner and reigning Indian Open champion Vijay Kumar, and Uttam Singh Mundy, the only player to have won this tournament twice (1996 and 1998), Gaurav Ghei, Harmeet Kahlon and Amritinder Singh. Current Money List leader on the Golf Tour golfer Mukesh Kumar will spearhead the challenge on the domestic front and will be joined by the likes of No 2 Digvijay Singh, twice Indian Open winner Ali Sher, Feroz Ali, Rahul Ganapathi, Rahil Gangjee and the talented Rookie Ashok Kumar.
