St Francis annex girls' volleyball title

New Delhi, September 27
Hosts St Francis De Sales School girls defeated Mira Model School 25-19,25-10,25-12 to annex the volleyball title in the first Fr Peter Mermier Memorial Invitational Inter-School Volleyball Tournament at the St Francis School court on Friday.

Manu Singh, Neha, Suchita and Preeti excelled at the net, in attack and in defence for St Francis School. Surbhi and Richa put up a stout fight for Mira Model School. Deputy Director of Education (Sport) of Delhi and former Asian Games wrestling champion Satpal gave away the prizes.

Father Agnel emerge champs

Favourites Father Agnel School, Gautam Nagar, rallied to beat Don Bosco School, Alaknanda, 61-57 to win the boys basketball title clash at the St Francis School court.

Abhishek and Atric Sahil scored 26 and 10 points, Respectively, for Father Agnel while Ritesh and Anshul basketed 17 and 15 points, respectively, for Don Bosco School.

Fancied Indira Ideal Public School, Janakpuri, prevailed over hosts St Francis De Sales School 32-16 to clinch the girls' title. Reena and Monica Singh scored 11 and 8 points, respectively, for Indira Ideal School while Arya John scored 14 points for St Francis.

CRPF lift soccer title

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) School, Rohini, beat General Raj's School, Haus Khas, by 1-0 to clinch the football title. Sandeep scored the match-winner off a pass from Praveen Singh in the 49th minute. Hosts St Francis De Sales School had lifted the football titles in the senior, junior and sub-junior sections in West Zone.

Basco School down Ramjas in Parle Cup

Subodh Kumar played an all-round role (31 and 3 for 30) to help Basco Public School defeat Ramjas School No 5 by ten runs in the third Parle Cup Inter-School Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Government Senior Secondary School, Vikas Puri.

Scores: Basco School: 135 in 34.3 overs (Sandeep Kumar 41, Subodh Kumar 31, Jatin Sharma 5 for 18).

Ramjas School No 5: 125 in 29.4 overs (Mohan Singh 27, Pankaj Kumar 23,Subodh Kumar 3 for 30, Tarun Singh 2 for 12, Dinesh Kumar 2 for 19).

DPS beat Don Bosco

Delhi Public School, R K Puram beat Don Bosco by nine wickets in the sixth Inter-School Cricket Tournament played at the DPS ground.

Scores: Don Bosco (first innings): 235 for 9 in 60 overs (Vikram Mahajan 105, Ankit Lal 40 n o, Arjun Suri 3 for 40, Manish Lakra 3 for 41). Second innings: 166 all out in 37.1 overs (Ramiz Khan 60, Rohan Malhotra 3 for 27, Tejeshwari Yadav 3 for 20, Manish Lakra 2 for 20).

DPS, R K Puram (first innings): 363 for 9 in 60 overs (Abir Lawasa 56, Ashish Bhan 56, Diwakar Jha 53, Sarahash Kumar 50, Vikram Mahajan 3 for 70, Ankit Lamba 3 for 30).

Second innings: 39 fo 1 in 6.2 overs (Tejeshwari Yadav 20 no).

Devender Sharma appointed umpire

International umpire from Delhi Devendra Sharma has been appointed as umpire for the three-day match between the Board President's XI and West Indies to be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore from October 4 to 6.

Naren Kumar of Team MRF all set to defend title

New Delhi, September 27
Naren Kumar of Team MRF, the defending Asia Zone Rally Championship and the country's leading rally driver, will be looking to extend his lead when the third round of the Motorsports Association of India's Indian National Rally Championship is flagged off from Goa on Friday.

Naren, who leads the championship with 32 points after back to back victories in the first two legs at Coimbatore and Nashik, respectively, will be looking to make it a hattrick of victories. Sagar Muthappa and Karandip Singh of Team MRF are in joint second place with 10 points, followed by defending national champion N. Leelakrishnan and Arjun Balu, both on nine points.

Mumbai's Jibby Maliakkal, sponsored by Gulf Oil, leads the 1400cc category with 22 points, followed by P G Abhilash on 17 and Vikram Matthias on 16, while the Rally Star Cup has Sorab Zorablan on top with 16 points, and Bikku Babu a point adrift.

The WIAA Rally de Goa 2002, organised by the Western India Automobile Association, will be flagged off from Hotel Mandovi on September 27, and will be run over a distance of 400km, with six special stages, comprising 120 km.

Sandeep Karki stars in Ravindra School's victory

A dynamic all-round performance by Delhi Under-19 player Sandeep Karki (3 for 15 and 55 no, 8x4) helped Ravindra Public School, Pitampura, beat Manav Sthali Public School, Rajinder Nagar, by three wickets in a Group A League match of the Shaheed Smriti Under-19 Cricket Tournament for the Rameshwar Trophy, organised by the North Delhi Cricketers' Association, at the Ashok Vihar ground.

Manav Sthali have lost all the three matches they have played.

Scores: Manav Sthali School: 159 all out in 35 overs (Nishant Taneja 87, 9x4, 3x6, 78b; Harsh Kumar 3 for 26, Sandeep Karki 3 for 15).

Ravindra Public School: 162 for 7 in 34.2 overs (Sandeep Karki 55 no, 8x4; Pankaj Sethi 18 no, Nishant Taneja 2 for 21, Nikhil 2 for 25).

Vishal bowls Dena Bank to victory

A fierce bowling performance by Vishal Tyagi (4 for 24) helped Dena Bank beat Delhi Blues by 56 runs and entered the semi-final of the second C L Gupta Memorial Cricket Tournament for the Prem Lata Trophy, organised by K N Colts Club, at the Mohan Meakins ground.

Scores: Dena Bank: 196 for 8 in 40 overs (Soumik Chatterjee 50, 5x4; Mahesh Sood 30, Vishal Sharma 20,Vaibhav Rastogi 4 for 40). Blues: 140 all out in 35 overs (Gagan Inder Singh 44, 4x4; Mridul Gupta 26, Vishal Tyagi 4 for 24)

Apex School bag basketball crown

Apex School, Burari defeated Bal Bharti Public School, Rajinder Nagar 72-62 to win the Ramjas Inter-School Basketball Tournament title on Friday.

Vikas of Apex, who scored 31 points, was adjudged the man of the match. His three-point shots were the highlights of the match. Sanjay (21) and Neeraj (17) were the other leading scorers for Apex. For Bal Bharti, Aditya (23), Karan (16) and Sumit (15) emerged the top marksmen.

Ramjas Foundation secretary Ram Kanwar Gupta gave away the prizes.Back
