Sarthak Gandhi lifts TT title

New Delhi, September 22
Sarthak Gandhi of Apeejay Public School beat Kunal Kathuria of Hansraj Model School 11-6, 6-11, 11-7, 12-10 to win the Kids title in the 14th Jaspal Kaur Memorial Table Tennis Tournament at the school premises on Sunday.

Dhruv Arora of Apeejay School and Esha Mong of Manav Sthali School clinched the Cadet Boys and cadet girls title respectively. Dhruv beat Aman Ahuja of Manav Sthali School 12-10, 11-9, 4-11, 11-6 while Esha outplayed Nupur Kumar of Hansraj School 11-7, 11-8, 11-3.

Yesterday, Kartik Kukreja of Hansraj Model School moved entered the quarter-final of the cadet boys singles when he beat Rajat Kumar 7-11, 11-3, 8-11, 11-5, 11-6.

However, Kartik Kukreja lost to Ketan Jain in the sub-junior boys section in a five-game thriller at 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 10-12, 11-7. In another well-contested match, Aman Ahuja of Manav Sthali School defeated Sarthak Gandhi of Apeejay Public School, Sheikh Sarai 8-11, 11-5, 11-4, 8-11, 11-6 in the pre-quarter finals.

In the kids section, top seed Kunal Kathuria of Hansraj Model School and Vedika Garg, also of Hansraj, entered the semi-finals. Kunal beat Himesh Bassi 11-4, 11-7, 11-8, Vedika Garg accounted for Monika Batra 11-1, 11-5, 11-3.

Shastri Club down Uttaranchal

Shastri Club defeated Uttaranchal Club 4-0 in an A Division match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Open Club Football League at the Ambedkar Stadium on Sunday.

Bhupender Thakur and Ranjeet scored as Shastri Club led 2-0 at half time. Bhupinder struck again to score the third goal while Sishir Biswas completed the tally.

Ashoka beat Hans Club in another match. Rimish put Ashoka in the lead in the 35th minute while Vimal Thapa equalised for Hans. Shyam Kumar netted the match-winner for Ashoka in the 59th minute. Collegians Club drew with Nav Jyoti Nepal Club 1-1. Vikram Bhandari put Nav Jyoti in the lead while Karamvir pulled off the equaliser for Collegians.

Golden Stars stunned State Bank of India 1-0 at the Nehru Stadium west ground. Abdul scored the match-winner in the 40th minute. Delhi Cantt. beat Delhi Veterans 2-1 after being locked 1-1 at half time. Aditya Das and Shard were the scorers of Delhi Cantt while Navneet scored the consolation goal for Delhi Veterans.

Shakti Club beat Delhi Tigers 2-0 in a B Division match. Vinod and Devender were the marksmen. Bangadarshan beat Gulabi Bagh 3-0. Utsav (2) and Sandeep Das were the goal-scorers. South India defeated Paschim Heroes 2-0. Indra scored both the goals.

Monday’s fixtures: Delhi Students vs Punjab Heroes (2.30 pm); Nivia vs YBA (4 pm)—Ambedkar Stadium. Lodhi AC vs Union (2.30 pm), New Friends vs Ajmal (4 pm))—Nehru Stadium west ground. Panchuian vs Young Heroes (2.30 pm); Rohini vs Young Sports (4 pm)—Nehru Stadium east ground.

Academy Club win

Academy Club beat Stance Club 3-0 to annex the Delhi and District Hockey Association's League for Clubs at the Shivaji Stadium. Sanjeet scored the first goal in t he sixth minute while Suran Dar converted a penalty corner to make it 2-0. Ravinder scored off another penalty corner to complete the tally.

K N Colts enter quarters

New Delhi, September 22
A dashing knock of 40, studded with six fours and one six, by Puneet Bisht and deadly bowling by Varun (4 for 14) helped K N Colts Club score their second victory when they beat Mont Fort School by one run to enter the quarter-final of the Shaheed Smriti Under-19 Cricket Tournament for the Rameshwar Trophy at the Mont Fort School ground, Ashok Vihar. In a thrilling match, Mont Fort School needed two runs off the last over of Varun, but Varun bowled a mainden over to guide K N Colts to victory.

Scores: K N Colts Club: 178 for 8 in 35 overs. Mont Fort School: 177 all out in 35 overs. OSR

Mary’s crush Heera School

Mount St. Mary’s School beat Heera Public School by 246 runs in the opening match of the third Parle Cup Inter-School Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Mount St. Mary’s School ground.

Scores: Mt. St. Mary’s: 273 for 9 in 40 overs (Yash Vardhan 72, Praghat Singh 68, Naveen Kumar 4 for 42, Sandeep Yadav 3 for 36). Heera Public School: 27 all out in 9 overs (Ankit Chaddha 5 for 12, Sahan John 5 for 12).

St. Angles Public School, Rohini beat DAV, Vikaspuri by 28 runs at the Vikaspuri ground.

Scores: St. Angles: 102 all out in 36.2 overs (Sanjeev Valomar 26, Vaibhav Bhanja 4 for 13, Ankit Mehrotra 3 for 14). DAV: 74 all out in 19.1 overs (Amit Nehra 5 for 19, Sitanshu Verma 3 for 24).

Delhi Public School (DPS), R K Puram defeated A R Vachin Bharti by eight wickets at the DPS ground, R K Puram.

Scores: A R Vachin Bharti: 77 all out in 25.5 overs (Sudish Dhingra 22, Rohan Malhotra 3 for 13). DPS, R K Puram: 80 for 2 in 12.4 overs (Tejeswari Yadav 26, Tushar Kumar 2 for 30).

Delhi Police School beat Green Fields School by 29 runs at the Bharat Nagar ground. Scores: Police School: 159 all out in 33.2 overs (Prashan Verma 28, Kapil Dangar 26, Pulkit Chabra 3 for 23, Sunish Rana 3 for 36). Green Fields: 130 all out in 29.1 overs (Roshan Sharma 26, Rahul Chaudhary 4 for 32, Gurjit Singh 2 for 18).

Sanjeev, Mayna emerge winners

New Delhi, September 22
Y Sanjeev Singh of Border Security Force (BSF) and Mayna Karmakar of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) emerged winners in the men’s and women’s section respectively in the Delhi State Triathlon Championship held at the Talkatora swimming pool complex on Sunday. The competitions were held in swimming, cycling and running.

Jaybir Singh (BSF) and V G Nair (Central Industrial Security Force) finished second and third in the men’s section while Nanda Sardar and Prunima Pal cornered the second and third position in the women’s section to complete a CRPF sweep.

In the junior boys and junior girls section, Kartikeya Hooda of Modern School and Meesha R Arora of Sankriti School emerged the winners. Vikas Mann of CPC and Amit Kumar of CSDC took the second and third position in the boys section while Meenakshi Toka and Ranji Tokas of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan finished second and third in the girls section.

Chairman of the All-India Council of Sports V K Malhotra gave away the prizes.

Leaseholders thrown out of 98 acres of panchayat land

Sonepat, September 22
Following the vacation of a stay order by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the district administration swung into action and got vacated 98 acres of the panchayat land from the leaseholders at Murthal village, 8 km from here, on Saturday.

According to a report, a team of officials, led by Tehsildar Narinder and Block Development and Panchayat Officer Dalip Singh Khatri accompanied by a strong contingent of police, arrived in the village to get the possession of the land from the leaseholders. The officials asked them to hand over the possession of the land to the gram panchayat but they declined to do so. Thereafter, the officials pressed JCB machines into service and demolished five houses in the land. The demolition continued for about three hours.
