Avneet declared Ms Fresher

Ludhiana, September 13
Avneet of BCom I was declared Ms Fresher while Supreet of 10+2 and Sonam of B. Com I were declared first and second runners-up, respectively, at the welcome-cum-fresher contest by Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, here today.

A warm welcome was accorded to the fresh arrivals in the college. The welcome function comprised of dance items on popular numbers, humorous skits, choreographies and group and solo dances.

The modelling by the contestants of Ms Fresher contest was the main attraction among the students.

The participants sashayed on the ramp amid much applause. The witty answers of the contestants were much appreciated. Saloni was adjudged Ms Elegant and Minal bagged the prize for Ms Beautiful Smile.

In her address, the College Principal, Ms Charanjit Mahal, congratulated the winners. The winners were crowned by the Principal.

College library inaugurated

Ludhiana, September 13
A computerised library and a fashion designing wing of the local Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women were inaugurated today. Dr S.S. Johal inaugurated the library and Mr Raj Kumar inaugurated the designing wing.

In his address, Dr Johal stressed upon the role of teachers in shaping the personality of students. He said the teachers as well as students should spend at least two hours daily in the library. He motivated the students to collect money to buy books.

Mr Raj Kumar also spoke on the occasion and extended his heartiest felicitation to the college authorities for introducing innovative services in the library. He donated books worth Rs 5,000 for the library. The Principal, Dr Madanjit Kaur Sahota, while addressing the students stressed upon the need for developing taste for reading good books.

A college magazine, ‘Noorani Jot’, was released by Dr Johal.

The State Science Seminar 2002 on “Remote Sensing Application For National Development, Potential and Impediments” was organised by the National Science Centre Delhi, State Institute of Science Education and Indian Space Research Organisation Bangalore, at Government Senior Secondary School Mandi Gobindgarh today.

Mr K.K. Bhatnagar, Principal Secretary to Education Department, Punjab was the chief guest.
